  • wlmsn Removes iron from your body. Binds it in some way, where you end up pissing it out...I think. I'm not exactly a biology major.

Boswellia could be something to look into as far as achilles inflammation goes. Disclaimer: NOT OFFICIAL MEDICAL ADVICE, consult your doctor, do your own research, doublecheck whether it messes with Iron, bla bla bla

  • wlmsn Not only does turmeric block iron absorption, it actually CHELATES iron - google it, if you don't believe me.

My brain fog/eye strain started when I was doing a whole bunch of things to manage an inflammatory condition - among them: a vegetarian diet (i.e. low iron intake), and COPIOUS (half a glass/day of raw powder) amounts of turmeric. I was also doing a whole bunch of other things at the time, so it took me a loooooong time to get to my current theory that low iron is the culprit.

    • Has this thread died down because no one knows what their iron levels are, and can't be bothered to check? Or they do, but can't be bothered to share this info?

I've been able to raise my ferritin level from 5 to 13 over the last 3 months. At this pace, unless I find a way to jack up my ferritin levels much faster, expect a report as to whether low iron was the eye-strain culprit in my case…….in a year or two.

      Cheers

      • Have you, while suffering from these symptoms, at any point had your blood work done? What are your iron levels, especially ferritin?

Have you had food poisoning/ taken antibiotics prior to the onset of symptoms?

        • I have an Iron deficiency, apparently. Including low Iron storage levels - i.e. ferritin, which is 5 μg/L. Whereas "normal" range for men is supposed to be somewhere around 30-300.

And, anecdotally, people on r/anemic claim the optimal level is >100, and even at a nominally normal level, of let's say 50, they have all kinds of issues like dizziness, brain fog, sensitivity to light, etc…sound familiar?

I've made a previous post about the positive effect of probiotics on my sensitivity to screens
          (https://ledstrain.org/d/2545-significant-improvements-from-probiotics-some-bad-screens-are-now-tolerable)

And what do you know….just google "probiotics increase iron absorption."

Anyhow, I've been taking Iron for a few months now…possibly seeing improvements in regard to screen sensitivity, as well as overall general well-being. No wonder. Low iron = not enough oxygen is reaching the brain.

It takes many months, apparently, to restore the levels to normal, so we'll have to wait and see.

Does anyone else have Iron deficiency?
If you don't know, it may well be worth your time to check your Iron levels, including ferritin.

And do check what the actual numbers are - the doctor may tell you everything is "normal," but, anecdotally, you may feel quite sick when you're on the lower end of "normal".

        • The 2023 model of Asus Strix G18 is giving me eye strain. Went to the store that has the 2024 model in the showroom - also eye strain.

I'll try to fiddle with dithering.exe, different versions of Windows, etc. But so far, I haven't noticed anything special about this model,

          • Andreiid Oh damn. Thanks for the heads-up. Because I'm a dummy I got the wrong model. Oh well…we'll see how it works out. They do have the 2024 model as well. So, maybe I'll try that one if this one doesn't work…

Thank you for explaining it to me

P.S. Doesn't have to be a 4070 for me. I just want a modern laptop that isn't killing my eyes.
Btw, magnesium supplementation has increased my overall tolerance of screens (I should probably make a separate post about it). And probiotics too - I already did make a post about that.

            • Just ordered the G18. RTX 4070.

"18" QHD+ Nebula display" - is that the same as IPS?

              Fingers crossed. Will report back.

              • anyone I haven't found a NEW, modern laptop that works for me. I have an ancient dell laptop that runs Windows 7 and is perfectly usable when running Iris (screen dimming software), it just doesn't run new software and is very slow.

Having said that, see my other post re: probiotics - I can't yet fully tolerate new computer screens, but I can tolerate them to a greater extent now.

              • wlmsn Thanks. I am dairy free as it is. But yes, I know for a fact it's gut disbiosis in my case too. Do let us know as to your progress should you start fiddling with you microbiome via probiotics or otherwise.

bz12 Thanks. I used to have candida issues in the past. But they weren't causing eye strain. Lactoferrin supplements (they bust candida biofilm very effectively and stimulate the growth of good bacteria) permanently cured my candida issues after only several months of taking them (interestingly enough this lactoferrin doesn't jive well with my current probiotic regiment at all - weird side effects).

              • Can you quantify the difference this made? E.g. strain to no strain at all? Headache within 5 minutes to headache after 45 minutes, etc.

                • My sensitivity to screens, and general brain fog gets worse after food. And REALLY bad after certain kinds of food. On top of that, I get runny nose/skin issues etc.
                  **
IF YOU'RE ONE OF THE PEOPLE WHO** looks at screens with one eye closed or whatever, and experience relief from that - you can just skip this post altogether. For all I know, we don't even have the same health condition.

Anyhow, since some of my symptoms are allergy-like. I've stumbled upon a theory that this is a result of gut dysbiosis and bad bacteria pumping out histamine that's clouding my brain.

Long story short, you can watch this guy's videos, he explains it pretty well (no affiliation, and I never paid him for his private courses):

                  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D9XPtSC_kFI
                  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O-9l6Ii2iGk

Anyway, I've been eating this stuff (once again, no affiliation) over the past several months:
                  https://www.customprobiotics.com/d-lactate-free-probiotics.html

This particular formula has none of the histamine-producing bacteria. All the strains are histamine-degrading, or histamine-neutral (interestingly, your average probiotic formula in your average store typically has strains that are all over the place - some that degrade histamine, some that produce it).

It was important to start with a very small dose, because initially I tried a decent size scoop, and it made all the symptoms MUCH worse - horrible brain fog. But, at this point I can take 6 scoops a day - no problem.

At this point, I've consumed 125 grams of this shit, and as a result, my skin got better, I no longer get eczema type reaction from eating bread, and most of the TV screens around the house that were giving me brain fog/eye strain are now tolerable. My worst screen - an old iPad that used to be quite tolerable, but became HELLISH after I updated the OS used to give me a sharp eye pain within 15 seconds. After the probiotics, I no longer feel an immediate sharp eye pain, but rather a slowly increasing unpleasant head feeling that becomes bad about 20 minutes in. So - not cured by any chance, but 15 seconds to 20minutes counts as a major improvement in my book. Also, car lights don't bother me that much now.

If any of you had their symptoms start when you came off of/started a new diet, had food poisoning, took a course of antibiotics, this could well be worth looking into. As well as if you have allergies, skin issues, or noticed that some foods make you more sensitive to screens. As well as if your symptoms get better when you fast for a day or two.

There was some guy on this forum who had almost exactly the same food sensitivities as I do (I've interacted with him in an earlier post). For someone like that this could be something to look into.

                • VERY interesting. When can I buy one? How much does it cost?

                  • miksu Can you be more specific as to which "Msi Gp66" you had that was usable for you? I'm seeing Msi Gp66 "Leopard," Msi Gp66 "Vector," etc. Also, it's Windows 11, correct?
