Does anyone else use steroid nasal sprays like Flonase (fluticasone)?
I used Flonase for years (decades probably). I started a new job two months ago and they gave me a new laptop. Unfortunately I had the absolute worst headache/nausea/eye strain ever on day one. Assuming I was about to need to find a new line of work I went through all my medications and found this from Google's AI bot about Flonase:
While Flonase can help relieve allergy symptoms, including itchy and watery eyes, it's important to be aware that Flonase, a nasal spray, can, in rare cases, lead to eye strain or vision changes as a side effect, such as blurry vision, or increased eye pressure.
I stopped taking it and I've been mostly fine with my work laptop and monitors since (an HP Elitebook and two Dell p2222h monitors on Windows 10).
About 2 weeks ago I got a really bad cold so I used Flonase to help clear it up and suddenly I was sensitive to the screens again (though not as bad as before at least).
Take this all for what it's worth because its just been my experience, but I'm curious... does anyone else in this group use these sprays?
Edit to add - I still can't use Macbooks and most iPhones (damn Apple) but I'm able to use an SE 2022 without issue on the latest OS.
ensete yea I don't blame you. Maybe the dealership will let you test drive it a few times if you explain the situation?
For what it's worth the car bothered me less when I put the radio/display screen to max brightness (it was probably 50% brightness when I felt sick). It's possible I was catching it out of my peripheral vision
I have a 2021 Subaru Ascent that doesn't bother me but my wife got a 2024 Forester last year and that did bother me the first 3-4 times I drove it. The good news is I got used to it pretty quickly and I don't have the issue anymore.
DisplaysShouldNotBeTVs thank you!
DisplaysShouldNotBeTVs what is the "TB" Part of the M2 Pro TB?
Has anyone used a device with Dell "ComfortView Plus" and seen any success with it?
My neighbor got a new laptop (16" Dell 7620 i7) and she let me use it for a few minutes and it seemed somewhat useable for me. Granted it was a very short time and I had someone standing there saying "How does it seem? How does it seem?" so it wasn't a great test, but it's promising at least.
I was looking through the specs and noticed the comfortview plus thing and I'm curious if that may be why? I usually look at all the blue light filters as just marketing gimmicks though so I'm skeptical.

Thanks Rob, this is really interesting. I appreciate the links to the studies as well... I'll have to dig through them.
Question for you... do you think this is specific to the Neu5Gc (red meat/dairy) or inflammation in general?
I have had a lot of problems with autoimmune and inflammation in the past 8-10 years. I gave up red meat/pork entirely about 6 years ago and I'm about 95% dairy free (only special occasions maybe 3x a year). I do eat chicken though. Might try to go full vegan for a few months just to see how I feel... at this point why not?
So with that said I would assume Neu5Gc isn't the primary issue for me (unless it's lingering cells like you mentioned) but inflammation in general definitely could be.
Are you connected to the ground or are you just holding the rock? I think you'd need to be barefoot on the ground for it to work (or using a grounding pad).
I have a grounding theory unrelated to eye strain - I have a major issue with dairy (causes joint pain) but on vacation I always went to an ice cream place with my kids so I go anyway, consequences be damned. We spent the day at the beach and I got a huge ice cream, and was fine. I got nachos the next day, ice cream again and nachos the next day... felt completely fine the entire time. Came home and thought my dairy issue was gone, had a gluten free pizza with real cheese and bam, all my joints swelled up like arthritis.
I spent 8+ hours on the beach/ocean and was totally fine with dairy repeatedly, then spent none grounded and was in pain after one meal. Could be something else but I've been wondering if grounding had something to do with it. From what I've read about it, it helps with inflammation which is really the issue at play here.
balthazar what does Chelates mean?
A while back I had a bad reaction to Cipro and almost blew out my achilles. I started taking Vitamin Shoppe's "Triple Strength Turmeric" (900mg) and basically kept taking it for about 5 years. I get pretty achy without it but if it's messing up my iron/causing this eye thing I'll survive without it.

Ok, got my bloodwork results back and they're confusing (Of course they are!!)
My Ferritin is in range but in the lower part of the range but my serum iron is at the HIGH end of the range... odd. My Ferritin is around 50, but like @balthazar said in the original post it may need to be >100.
So that said I asked my GP if there's a way to safely increase my ferritin levels without pushing my serum iron too high... we'll see what he says. I'm not a fan of this doctor so I won't hold my breath on a solution.
I did think about something interesting though... I have a lot of autoimmune issues and I've was taking turmeric supplements for 4-5 years. I stopped a month ago because I read something about it being bad for the liver. The interesting thing is that apparently turmeric decreases iron absorption. Combine that with the fact that I don't eat red meat and I probably did a number on my Ferritin stores. Perhaps it was even lower before I quit and it's working it's way back up? Just a guess.
Also interestingly @Seagull commented here that turmeric/curcumin makes screens worse for them as well. Maybe that's connected? Maybe I'm just crazy? Maybe both!
Thank you for this. What computer/OS version are you using with these monitors?
hansennnnn iron does seem to be a bit of a suspect from a few posts on this forum. I'm going to have my iron and ferritin levels checked in mid Sept just to be sure.
hansennnnn I don't believe oats do, though if you're sensitive to gluten like I am they are usually cross contaminated.
Histamines are usually fermented foods, citrus, some dairy and a few other random things like avocado and chickpeas
