“To save energy, Apple uses a PWM with a very high frequency of 117 kHz up to approx. 50% brightness (i.e. approx. 160 cd / m2). We can also measure a slight flickering at 60 Hz, but this has only a very slight fluctuation in brightness (with and without a power cord). However, both should only lead to complaints for very few users.”
“The display flickers at 118000 Hz (most likely due to pulse width modulation PWM) with a set brightness of 49% (155 cd / m²) and below. There should be no flickering above this. “
“The brightness fluctuations also occurred in the test at high brightness and therefore affects most applications.”
I’m a little confused, they say “We can also measure a slight flickering at 60Hz”, is that referring to when it’s below 50% brightness only, or at all times? Because it also says that the brightness fluctuations occur at high brightness as well. But then there’s also this quote: “There should be no flickering above this”, talking about when it’s above 50%.
