Sometimes it's hard to see if strain is coming from new Intel driver, or if it's built-in to modern Windows builds.

With modded drivers, there are two new options (if you can get it to work properly, there are many options, this thread is long and on-going):

1) Use newer adapter (UHD 630, for example) with older OS
2) Use newer adapter with older officially unsupported drivers
3) Both 1 and 2

Obviously there are security implications. I am not recommending to try it, but I will report my findings.

Ok I am running 21.20.16.5068 on UHD 630 on Windows 10 20H2. It is using WDDM 2.1.

Never thought that would be possible.

I have tried the opposite approach and Installed W10 on older hardware.

I have tried 2004 & 20H2 on my known good machines (also using the exact same driver I use now) and I get symptoms while using W10 but not on 7/8.1.

It's definitely a mixture between OS and driver IMO.

diop I agree, since Microsoft Basic Display Adapter causes pain on new Windows builds.

This driver helps though. It's better than the new Intel drivers. I feel pretty confident in saying that about 21.20.16.5068 on UHD 630. I don't think it's placebo either which so many of my interventions turn out to be, but we'll see in the long-term. Interestingly, color temp is colder on 21.20.16.5068 than the new Intel drivers. Color profile not installed on either driver, so it should really be the same.

But it's still a bit worse than 1507 LTSB. So I end up thinking what's the point? If I HAD to use modern Windows, this is better, otherwise, I have to stick with what works best.
