I'm looking into what new display technologies will likely exist after OLED and mini-LED, and it seems Micro-LED is next. I was reading a 3 year old article to see if Micro-LED would address flicker and the hypothesis is that Flicker will persist. Likely, the majority, if not all, of manufacturers will not want to use voltage to control dimming since it changes color temperature.
It is my guess that dithering could be addressed with such a high pixel density. Essentially having each tiny pixel represent its' own color and not requiring tricks. While I believe this could work, I still think dithering will be used to bring you the next level of marketing to sell you on even more vibrant colors! /s
I'm very curious what other near future display technologies will come to the forefront. Laser projectors seem to be gaining steam. I don't know if BenQ monitors are truly PWM free, but as tech moves forward, I hope companies like that don't change.
