Temporal Dithering Sensitivity - My Solution
AGI I feel like every day I wake up and I have one point of reference less, and an upgrade could downgrade my life quality. Why are they even called upgrades?
I don't know what to tell you? Maybe if we got some traction with companies who don't think we are all just hypochondriacs things might get improved as a result.
AGI Since you are the temporal dithering guru
Uh thanks?
AGI To have different grey tones?
I have a Kindle Paperwhite and I don't see any moving image dithering because it it did the image would be constantly flickering.
AGI I was wondering whether there is an interplay between resolution and PWM.
It wouldn't be PWM.
AGI KM instead suggested dithering, which I had never heard of before that time.
I don't blame you, it's an alien concept to most people.
AGI Have you ever seen what happens if the display is not run at native resolution?
Sadly not. I wish we had more empirical data.
AGI Does dithering fade?
Maybe if the dithering is done by the graphics card it might be different, but if it's done by the display itself it could be the same.
JTL Thanks on all your answers. I turn the question around. Have you or anyone else ever tried to use a lower display resolution and see what happens in terms of eye comfort? I just want to understand if I am the only one who found relief in doing that. It is probably not important anymore though, since my long-lived laptop stopped behaving even in lower resolution once I "upgraded" from XP to Windows 10? Always more confused...

Thanks for your work. I agree the only way to receive attention is to show experimental evidence and, even better, point out a potential solution...
AGI Do you mean like the (relatively) new Kindle with the light from the side to read at night without a table lamp?
My Kindle Paperwhite has a "front lit" display where instead of the lights at the back illuminating the display the lights are at the bottom shining towards the top of the device.
I'll post a picture trying to show it tomorrow.

I now have several Dasung pros. I have not purchased any Onyx because it looks laggy.

let me know how you like it.
ShivaWind I notice you use DuckDuckGo
This site might be useful to you: https://hooktube.com/
ShivaWind Thanks! Can you confirm the Dasung is just a monitor and cannot be used as a standalone e-reader?
I was thinking of buying the Onyx because it can be used also independently and I had watched this video
And also because it is cheaper :-)
But I have not made my mind up yet and what happened to my Android phone a few days ago makes me fear about the Onyx BOOX...

Dasung is a monitor only, but it is very responsive. Lag would drive me up the wall.
ShivaWind Thanks. I just received an email back from them. I had not realized there is a third-generation HD version. They do not yet ship it outside China though and they do not encourage buying from third parties.
By the way, the price of the Pro is now USD 899 with free shipping, excluding custom fees, directly thru Dasung or Indiegogo. That makes it appealing. A month ago I discarded it as an option compared to the Onyx Boox because I had seen it on sale only on Amazon.com for USD 1199 plus USD 509 for shipping and custom fees. Unreasonable.

AGI Allegedly. If it does what I think it does, running a full OS with a glorified video streaming app for the GPU input I wouldn't be surprised if it caused input lag.
To quote from the YouTube comments
No, the review is not fair! Onyx has a input lag of about 300 ms, and Dasung practically does not have it. Therefore, as a second monitor, Dasung is better than Onyx! It
would be better if you connect both monitors to one computer and
duplicate the video signal on both, and then you can judge which monitor is
faster and whose input lag is less.
KM I read that the device doesn't have a "CE" sign and that no CE papers exist. Which due to European laws is required for any electronically device that gets imported to the EU. If they open the package at the border and don't find a CE sign or papers, they will either destroy it or send it back and you have to pay for it.
You may want to shoot them an email at contact@dasung.com
That is what they told me: "We have CE sign/mark,you can rest assured about this."
Does anyone know how to contact the author of "ditherig"? I don't think his tool supports external monitors, could it could.
AGI I have two Dasung paperlike pro monitors and one Onyx Boox tablet. In terms of response, Dasung is better. There is almost no lag on Dasung monitor when you change from screen to screen or refresh websites. You can even watch youtube videos on Dasung monitor, but there is no color. It will be the best if there is a HDMI 2.0 port on your laptop to use Dasung. Otherwise you will need a converter which may not give you full performance.
Boox tablet has noticeable lag when the screen is refreshed, but I have not tried to use it as a monitor. Not sure if the performance is better when used as a monitor. I like the tablet because it makes things easier for travel. Going thru airport security check is a pain when you have a laptop and a monitor with you.
I am also thinking about getting a yotaphone you mentioned in your other posts. It is pretty expensive on ebay (~$800).

Jerry Thanks on your feedback and on this note

I intend to connect to the Dasung the laptop I was given at work. It is a MacBook Air (13-inch, Early 2014). I had never used a Mac before and I wonder...is Belkin 4K Mini DisplayPort to HDMI Cable what I need?

Are you thinking of buying Yotaphone 2 or 3? I contacted Yotaphone via the form on their website a few times to know more about the best channels to buy but never heard back...

I have never used Mac either. So I don't have the answer to your question.
AGI Are you thinking of buying Yotaphone 2 or 3?
I want to get a yotaphone 3, but a yotaphone 2 in good condition is also fine. Yotaphone is available on Ebay. https://www.ebay.com/itm/new-Yota-3-YotaPhone-3-64GB-Unlocked-Android-7-1-1-Mobile-cellphone-Ch-Versio-/163000905485?_trksid=p2385738.m4383.l4275.c10

I think you might have some issues given intel GPU dithering and how the Dasung makes it visible. but I believe this is the right cable.
Good luck!
