Hi all. Some of you might remember my recent thread on Dell Precision 7760 and Lenovo Legion 5. What struck me in case of these laptops was getting identical eyestrain despite they being so distant as products.
At the end I mentioned my (more recent) problem with GTX 1080 ti - eyestrain on new drivers (version > 418).
It seems the whole story can be nicely summarized: I'm unable to use anything from Nvidia which has anything to do with raytracing, even though I'm not making any explicit use of it in games etc. To be more specific:
- whenever there is an RTX hardware -> eyestrain (I was able to use Legion 5 through HDMI, but with new 510 drivers / newest Linux 5.13 kernel updates it's no longer the case; the eyestrain is much more moderate though than with the laptop panel)
- whenever there is RTX in the software (to my knowledge, driver 425 introduced raytraing for some GTX cards, including 1080 ti) -> eyestrain.
Note: I'm using NVIDIAs only for CUDA computations (no games, 3d graphics etc.) and displaying the desktop / apps.
What remains to be tested:
- a desktop RTX (don't know when)
- another laptop (in couple of days)
I thought it might be helpful to people reporting problems with newer GPUs here.
Cheers.
