jasonpicard Do you know what drivers were being used when it was on Windows 7?

Windows 10 will probably install the latest drivers automatically, so it may be worth checking if the old good driver can be used with Windows 10.

Also is it Intel graphics? May be worth trying ditherig tool to see if that helps.

I'm noticing a trend of good hardware going bad once Windows 10 touches it. 🙁

      diop it's one of those boxes that connects to the server. I don't think I can make any changes to it. I honestly don't think I can stare at it for more then 10 seconds. It's the worst form of flicker I have ever felt in 10 years.

          jasonpicard I had an LED headache this afternoon for about 3 hours from looking at my colleague's Dell U2713H for literally between 10-30 seconds. Even seeing the light in the background seems to not be very nice. Just creates a deep pain in the head behind the eyes. Also I have sort of that camera flash afterimage like thing if someone snaps a photo with flash in front of your eyes, but it's pretty faint. It's such a strange reaction. I know I was a little skimpy on sleep last night and only got 6 hours (thanks to YouTube! LoL!)

              MagnuM Yeah I feel like these windows 10 machines are the worst thing I have ever experienced. I wonder is dithering is less painful if a CCFL monitor is used instead of led.

                  When I hook my "bad" laptops up to my known good CCFL monitor I actually tend to get worse headaches.

                  It's probably always going to be about the same though unless the monitor does something weird to affect what is being displayed.

                      This looks very interesting - anyone tried it yet? I've got my home laptop sorted by disabling my Intel HD 630 graphics driver and also my Nvidia GTX 1050 graphics driver, therefore reverting back to the Basic Display Adapter. However my main desktop still gives me a little trouble if used for more than about 90 mins so I'll give this a bash and report back. Thanks!

                          si_edgey I don't know if this does anything for the desktop GTX 10xx cards because those looked awful even in the BIOS, which means this is a very "hardcoded" problem.

                          @MagnuM I realize I've been repeating myself for months but don't lose hope. Eventually we will have empirical methods to detect dithering. The obstacles are that I'm a busy university student, need money for the video capture board and I need to find an old desktop from circa 2010 with a quad core CPU and 2x PCIe slots (for the video capture board and the GPU. I can source one for not much money locally.)

                              JTL Have you thought about creating PATREON? Since this issue has a direct and major negative impact on our lives/careers and your research is the only one going on I would be more than willing to support it. I think there would be others like me, especially that the number of active "eye strainers" on this forum is increasing rapidly lately. That would hopefully cover expenses of equipment you use for testing/developments and of course that priceless effort of yours, which we all really appreciate.
