OLED TV - Same Issues...

Today I learned that Panasonic doesn't use Android nor LG's WebOS but a custom OS based on Firefox OS, which was abandoned some years ago. Firefox OS is based on Linux and uses the old Gecko rendering engine (not Quantum). I think if one day I try an OLED TV again, I will choose Panasonic.

Guys, it's the SOURCE. Not the display. There are very few BAD monitors for me, but lots of bad SOURCES. The same TV that is warm and wonderful when watching cable on an old shitty DVR... but the Roku3 causes instant strain on the same TV with the same settings. On my living room TV, the XBox 360 is fine and the PS3 is fine but the switch hurts... it's the SOURCE. They're all outputting 1080p, but something is different about the newer output chips.

Note - this doesn't apply to everyone. For some people it really IS the PWM. For some people it really is the OLED brightness. But not me. For me it's some kind of source flicker (FRC? Dither?).

Gurm I still can't find a monitor that doesn't hurt my eyes no matter what I try. At this point I believe I can't tolerate LED and CCFL and it will not work no matter what I try. I have tried so many different combinations. I do know that two phones that are OLED have given me no pain. Plasma TV works for me no matter what is hooked up to it. I have a Dell 2005fp I can use but it gives me a headache. It didn't ruin me like a dithering headache because that's worst. The Dell 2001fp i own which is supposed to be flicker free didn't feel good at all probably because of dithering. I want to keep going down the OLED road as for it seems the most promising.

Well a monitor with 6+2 bits color depth (FRC) would cause the same issues but otherwise I agree.

Source is of course very important but I think if the backlighting wasn't an issue so many of us wouldn't have such a big problem with LED lights

I have tried many LED monitors and none were usable using things I know for certain cause me zero issues.

I do however have an LED backlit Sony Bravia that's one of the most comfortable screens I've ever used.

The difference between the TV and the monitors is something like 1200 bux. My assumption is the TV uses better LEDs with better implementation it's also a VA panel and maybe that is also helping.

Soreeyes It sucks so many "computer monitors" allegedly use crappy LEDs.

MagnuM I have exactly the same and I am using a CCFL powered screen at work and home: HP LA 2205 WG.

By accident I found out that the old Samsung S4 mini of my girlfriend works for me. If I buy another Samsung S4 mini, I get pain on my eyes...so I really dont know what the root cause is.

I try tell my story in short Im a gamer and I like watching blu ray movies. I mostly played on PC on my Eizo FS2434 about 3-4 years ago I have bought TV 43 sony kdl-wd750 and used it with PC and later with PS4... everyting was fine.
Then I wanted a bigger display 50 inch so I have sold my 43 TV and bought 50" Panasonic 4k EX700. Just before that I have bought Nintendo Switch. On the new display I have played tons of hours on Zelda BOTH and everyting was fine. After this game I have returned to ps4 and the nightmare begin... I had red / bloody eyes with super tense headache JUST after 20-30mins of play... I have tried many settings, bias lightning even trying to force is which ended super bad next day (couldn't see normally while driving car to work). TV and movies on this panasonic was fine. Time for return has passed. I have never had that kind of problems until this point. Im an IT guy so a lot of monitors at work/home-gaming no issues at all even starring 10h at screen. I have tested PS4 on my EIZO fs2434 - super fine I even took it to work to play on 24 HP monitor - fine. I have read that this panasonic uses bad PWM and my previous TV was not flickering at all (the sony 43) so I went back and bought 50 inch SONY TV but FULL HD with HDR. Unfortunally the problem was still there for PS4. I have returned this TV and bought quite high end (at 2017 year) SONY 4k XE9005 and I have configured it to not flicker acording to rtings. On this display PS4 was similar there were no red eyes but Im getting headaches after 1h or more of play. Suprisingly I have my PC hooked up to this display with HDMI (windows 7) and it's not causing me any headaches it's like a relief for my eyes (always turn off blur etc.). So back then I was tired of this try out's cause those headaches are really bad and sold PS4 and my library. I have a problem with HDR thought can't watch it for more then 10 mins causing eye strain. I ws thinking od getting 4k hdr player but cause of this its pointless I have tested and if I lower the backlight to low levels difference hdr vs non-hdr is really small or none...

Now I would like to get again PS4 to play it and was thinking if PS4 Pro can make any difference to slim I had?
I was thinking that monitors were always better then TVs so was thinking of big monitor like 43ud79 but they are only 43 so I would go smaller screen. I have also considered XBOX X but I hate microsoft and I don't know if it won't cause eye strain/headache whats your experience with xbox X vs ps pro?
What do you think about this problem and what could you advise? Its looking like not the display but source? Movies and TV are ok on display so must be related to the way display shows movement or something?

I purchased a Metz OLED TV (65MXD9500A) and have used it for the past 10 days including some 4h sessions without any headache issues.

The default settings and native apps seemed to not allow game mode and give me irritation.

What worked for me so far: I switched off all of the adaptive/noise reduction settings, use HDMI input and in TV settings switched on "Game Mode". I am using a Telstra TV3 (4k Roku box) for antenna TV as well as Netflix/Apple TV/Disney+/YT/Prime apps and so on.

For the first day or so my eyes felt a little "warm", but that seemed to go away after 2 days.

Is Telstra TV3 special in some way? Or is it like the fire TV stick?

Your eyes feeling warm? was it the first time they felt warm?

The Telstra TV3 is not special, only in that it is an HDMI input to the TV (rather than using the built in apps and tuner), so that seems to allow me to turn on Game Mode, and deactivate more of their signal processing.

It only seems to work at FHD (rather than 4k) with the cables I am using but I am ok with that as the TV is in lower resolution, and I only have the FHD Netflix subscription anyhow.

It was a different discomfort with a feeling a little like when your eyes are very dry/irritated from being out in the sun all day.

I had experienced a similar feeling years ago with a sharp Aquos S2 phone with I think an IGZO display, when I used it for navigation when driving for some hours.

In contrast to the OLED TV, I was unable to use the Sharp phone after that.

Just following up with the TV, have logged plenty of hours and no headaches from this one.

I have upgraded the HDMI cable and found 4k works with the Telstra TV (basically a Roku box) and the Metz TV in Game Mode.

The OLED screen is pleasing to look at, and such a relief it has not hurt my eyes.
