  • New posts / Resource not found

It happens sometimes that there is a flagged post symbol, but clicking on it says "resource not found". Sometimes the post's preview doesn't look like spam, so I wonder if that means it can happen new forum members get their very first post deleted accidently, perhaps never to return again. Such a recent post is https://ledstrain.org/d/1759-how-to-find-a-mobile-workstation-or-gaming-laptop, which seems deleted. The preview looked like the post is legit: "I'm so happy to have found this forum - knew I couldn't be th...", perhaps continuing with "...the only one suffering from eye strain" or something. Maybe it was spam after all though - I just thought it wouldn't hurt to bring this up.

    @Slacor Any thoughts on relaxing that system and giving some folks permissions to remove posts that are obviously spam?

      ryans I'm theoretically in favor of expanding the system, but until we have reliable audit logs and a full post view in the moderation queue to avoid ambiguity. I would consider those problems to be solved.

        Permanent deletion is limited to myself (and I don't use it)
        Everything else falls into a category of "soft" delete. These are always recoverable. The user should be able to see their own pending posts as "pending approval" and not see them as just gone.

        It looks deleted to you because you have partial permissions to view it. This is a bug with the forum software that I need to report but simply have not had the bandwidth to report and follow up on.

        I absolutely understand this can cause friction for new users and also frustration that you can't help them.
        With that said:

        @ryans Possibly.
        Right now you (and KM and others) are part of a group that is automatically assigned to you.
        I don't want to provision potentially destructive permissions automatically.

        However, this is something to look into and maybe something can be implemented to bridge this. And taking into consideration JTL 's input on that.

        Edit: I have created a bug report on this behavior. Hopefully this can go into motion and possibly be resolved in a reasonable timeline now 🙂

          Slacor I'd say that's a fair assessment of things.
