New macbook pro 14/16 with M2 chips.

Hey guys, what do you think about new apple macbook pros ? Do you think its going to be true 10bit ? 😃 Pretty interesting info in their website saying like:

Simultaneously supports full native resolution on the built-in display at 1 billion colors and:

Up to two external displays with up to 6K resolution at 60Hz over Thunderbolt, or one external display with up to 6K resolution at 60Hz over Thunderbolt and one external display with up to 4K resolution at 144Hz over HDMI

Well.. just got mbp 14 2023, and the display the same shit as it was on a previous m1's. So not for me, looks like they still using dithering/FRC for the laptops that worth 2k$

madmozg See @NewDwarf command's in this thread, which may disable temporal dithering on M1/M2 Macs.

madmozg Can you please share your experience with the 2023 MBP 14? Did you have the same issue as with the M1? Did you end up returning it?

ryans i'll try with my working laptop with mbp m1, the new one i've returned yesterday and ordered mac mini m1 max 😃

sardine yes the same experience, maybe little bit better, but again: having little headache, feeling tension on my face muscles, feeling like its hard to focus, also feels like getting disoriented in space after using the laptop screen. I also made a video with iphone and 240fps, but not sure if its a correct type of measuring such kind of things.. Will try to upload it later

madmozg I went to the store yesterday to try them out and same symptoms. Have you found any relief yet with settings?

I was also looking at the m2 air which does seem easier on the eyes when looking at a static screen, but 120hz scrolling really is nice.

And as I can gather from the newly acquired info, eyestrain doesnt occur due to 120 hz promotion as that doesn’t flicker 120 images on and off, it just shows them one after the other.

Eyestrain happens due to pwm or dithering, correct?

I downloaded the iris tech app which supposedly should take care of the pwm by using white point to dim with the macbook’s brightness on full, but dithering still seams unattainable?

I am unable to use any of the current macos/ios/ipados devices. I'm unable to focus on the screen and they also all make me feel dazed and a bit disoriented. They simply can't reproduce colors in the P3 space on an 8 bit panel without FRC. It's not possible.

Was anyone able to confirm if these are true 10 bit panels? Seems like they have the technology, I’m pretty positive the Pro Display XDR is true 10 but no FCR dithering but I may be mistaken.

Lauda89 that site directly states (in general) that there are different FRC algorithms which confirms my overall concern with modern panels.

Lauda89 FWIW. I don't know how they source their data, so there probably are inaccuracies and uncertainties with that site as well.

MTNEYE What I’d like to know is how high the pwm rate is at dimmed settings. There are a couple of screenshots in that review of 25/50/75/100% setting but I can’t seem to see frequency speeds? Anyone?
