no one tested new oled dc dimming ? i cant even look on amoled screen, after 1min my eyes still hurst still after 3-4 day. is this only pwm related ?

LG flex 2 had 'dc dimming', no good for me though unfortunately. Even with dc dimming, oled phones seem all to all have a 60hz flicker that sets me off.
I haven't yet seen a pwm graph for an oled phone that didn't have those 60hz dips. I don't know what causes them, but given it happens at full brightness I suspect its part of the refresh cycle given 60hz is about the desired framerate for devices.
Seagull Are you sure it's that 60 Hz flicker that causes you problems and not "Android"? I mean you could only be sure about the latter if you had two different ROMs, both with the 60 Hz flicker but one which is usable.
The flicker percentage is much smaller than that of incandescent bulbs, admittedly has a harsher curve.
You are right, I can't be sure without a similar good device to compare with, but I did devise a test regardless. When you say "Android" I presume you mean the dithering that many of us suspect android uses.
I covered the screen of an amoled phone (nexus 6) with paper, with the screen set to maximum brightness. The paper allowed enough light through to make out colours and shapes displayed on the screen but no more. It induced the same eye pain/migraine symptoms as without the paper covering the screen. I haven't explored this as much as I could have, but I think the paper obscured/blurred enough of whatever image the phone was displaying that any fine dithering would have been lost. Therefore, I concluded the strain was due to the 60hz pwm-like flicker, as the paper would not obscure whole screen flickering/pwm.
I wonder if the test equipment used to make pwm graphs isn't sensitive enough to capture just how sharply LEDs/OLEDs can illuminate, given than an LEDs could illuminate about ten times faster than these graphs show.

It's probably fast enough. At 60 Hz, which is a very slow frequency, any cheap equipment such as our current 100K resistor method (see oscilloscope thread) should be fast enough to show true rectangles if the source signal is rectangular. I got a similar signal on the OnePlus 3. You'd start to see curves at frequencies like several kilohertz but not 60 Hz. The curves we see on the picture most probably happen like the picture indicates. It's interesting though that the spikes become largest when placing the sensor directly on the surface (seen during my own tests). The flicker might run from like top left to lower right corner, which could be an explanation. With 2 sensors at once and overlapping graphs, one could probably prove that. Most oscilloscopes have at least 2 inputs. I currently don't have a working oscilloscope setup but maybe someone else would want to try it.
Seagull are you sure g flex2 oled using dc dimming ? dc dimming for oled is a new thing i think. new lg phone still use pwm.

This is my source.
There is nothing new in terms of technology needed to make DC dimming work, its simply a case of accepting a reduced picture quality at low brightness settings.
Tried out OxygenOS 9 on my OnePlus 3. No good. Back to Paranoid Android.
AGI I'm actually very surprised at the level of eyestrain change from switching the OS.
OxygenOS 9 is MORE painful than Paranoid Android, even if Paranoid Android is on PWM brightness (less than 65 / 255) and OxygenOS 9 is not.
On this piece of hardware the software effect is stronger for me than PWM.
I wouldn't say it's zero eyestrain, there is nothing that gives me zero eyestrain anymore, including reading, as I have so much eye muscle damage from pushing passed pain in the early years, but it is far and away my best device. Much better than my PC.
NotebookCheck published their results testing DC dimming with oscilloscope equipment
So not a 100% solution due to (possibly) inherent limitations in OLED technology, but it's starting to get on par with LG OLED TVs it looks like.
I'd be darn curious what a Galaxy S2 looks like under an oscilloscope test.
Just got an "open box" iPhone 6s. I was afraid it would automatically update when I put it online, but it did not. The OS version is 10.2.1. I had a 13 hour long day under fluorescent lamp, using multiple computers including the hated iMac and my MacBook Air, and I was not too bad. After a few minutes on the iPhone I immediately got a creepy neck tension, and a bit of eyestrain / eyelid twitching. Very promising. Let's see how it goes in the next days. I used it an year ago for two weeks and, although I found it harsh, I could handle it.
degen Sorry, I was being ironic...or sarcastic, I never remember the difference.
I used the phone for 20 minutes before bed. I woke up this morning with very sticky eyes and as if my head had been turned around a bunch of times. So much tension accumulated after a few minute usage. I feel like I have been run over by a truck.
I am not ironic / sarcastic anymore :-(
AGI I never use a smartphone before bed anymore. I have a smartphone but now it's solely used for emergencies or necessity when I'm outside. If i'm at home I use my Desktop PC for everything. If I get a IM then I use facebook web/whatsapp web. I would move your PC/Laptop closer to your bedroom if you need to use the internet.
I can say at least in my experience that ditching the smartphone as much as possible has been beneficial for my sleep and attention span.
Thanks, after two nights I have not yet "healed". Yesterday I had a long day at work, about 13 hours. It was awful. Neck and head tension, twitching and huge difficulties keeping my eyes focused on anything, screen or paper. All this caused by 20 minutes on the new phone the day before. I now have doubts last year I was lent for two weeks an iPhone 6 instead of a 6s, or maybe the OS was an older version than 10?
I could tell I would get a trauma from just turning the phone on. No need to read or focus. Actually the characters are neat, the reading is not difficult at all. It is else that kills me.
I do not think I have chances to get used to it. I can't afford to be so poor performing at work for days every time I used the phone for minutes.
I do not know what to do now phone-wise. I wanted to test a OnePlus 3 with Paranoid Android but could not get one.
By the way, thanks for your tips @diop. I have been without smartphone since February and it is so much better, I agree with you.
@KM I just found a vendor of OnePlus3 on eBay who ships to Japan from Hong Kong!
He actually sells both OnePlus 3 and 3T. If I look at the specs, the differences do not seem to relate to the graphics. 3T offers more LTE cover, from the little I understand. Selfie camera resolution, battery life and device color are not a priority.

Would you agree? Do you use yours fine in Europe, do not you?
Paranoid Android should work on both phones. I have the doubt which one to try.
By the way, once I install the custom ROM, if it does not work for my eyes and I want to resell, do I have any chance to factory reset?
If you have any recommendation, I greatly appreciate it, since you are way more knowledgeable. Do not worry, I won't blame another wrong purchase on you :-)
AGI There's some Windows low level software in both the official OnePlus forum and on XDA developers that can even reset a "bricked" OnePlus 3 (black screen, not booting) to some earlier version of OxygenOS. Or you could install any version of OxygenOS again, be it from within TWRP or by USB cable, which will install the official bootloader (replacing TWRP), then you should be able to re-lock the bootloader via console (PC) and have the warning message at boot, that comes with unlocking, disabled. It's the message that makes selling unpleasant. Both methods should be like a factory reset.
I can't say if the OnePlus 3T has the same display mechanisms like the 3, sadly.

No problems in Germany.
