So far in 2024 I have tested 4 handsets; Apple iPhone XR, Motorola Edge 30 Neo, Asus Zenfone 10 and Google Pixel 5.
I have been searching for a secondary handset alongside my Google Pixel 3a which I have owned for around 4 years now and finally I found one that only causes mild eye strain / tiredness.
First I bought a refurbished Apple iPhone XR but this caused strong eye strain and nausea so I only used it for a few days.
My next handset was the Motorola Edge 30 Neo. I really enjoyed using this. Screen size was great, not too big, specs are enough for what I require (some light gaming), great version of Android close to Pixel level, 68w charger and very light in hand. It caused mild eye strain / tiredness and on occasions I used it for 60 / 90 minutes without huge concern.
The Asus Zenfone 10 isn't a handset I usually go for due to it's cost. I don't need the specs etc that this offers but I have always liked the small form factor. Yes its a nice premium device but I just looked at it and thought what am I really getting for the extra cost that will benefit me ? I didn't enjoy using it compared to the Edge 30 Neo. Eye strain was a bit stronger with this one as well.
Finally a refurbished Google Pixel 5. I really like Pixels especially the software and feel so lucky I can use my Pixel 3a without any issues. This was a great handset in hand but eye strain was probably in between the Edge 30 Neo and Zenfone 10.
So I have decided to keep the Motorola Edge 30 Neo. As an emergency / secondary handset the eye strain is mild enough and if my Pixel 3a has future issues (Occasionally has already) I can switch to this. I may purchase a screen protector to see if I can improve the eye strain further.
