Hi,
Like a lot of guys here, since LED / IPS / new technology, I found it very hard to find a good monitor. After 10 buys and returns I've bought the cheapest Dell one day, 24inch, IPS, just to have a monitor.
I am talking about Dell, model S2421HN. Tested for 6 months, at my office, 8 hours daily… I am very satisfied, no eye strain, very sharp vision after 8 hours, very good. I can't believe that a 120 USD monitors is better than a lot of 300 USD or more expensive that I returned in the past.
Few days ago I bought the same model for home. And OMG, the old problems starts immediately.
After working 3 hours on it on evening, second day I woke up with a terrible eye strain and headache. After 2-3 days of trial and error in calibrating, I've bring home the monitor from my office, thinking to calibrate the new one near the old one. And I could not find any good settings.
The new one is so bright, so red, so vivid… If I calibrate the white color, the reds are too vivid. If I calibrate the red color, the white is very bright. You can go with brightness at 30%, it is too bright, to harshful.
Also the text is very hard to read on the new one, compared to the old one…
I think this post can help anybody, at least I know now that the IPS is not the main problem. Even PWM is not the problem 100%. I can use iPhone 12 without any problem, but again, huge problems with S22( normal, not Ultra. Ultra was OK ). I really don't understand why? 🙂
Regarding monitors, I think the white is too bright, the colors are too vivid and contrast (black text on white background) is not very good on a lot of new monitors… and these are the reason for a lot of problems.
