JTL Well my brother has also a Samsung Smart TV 2013. I also don't have problems with it. I tried out Samsung Smart TV 2014 -> eyestrain, but not as bad as Sony etc.

Interesting to note. I will find model number of mine later, tested for PWM and none at settings I use, then again with TV's you mainly just set it up once and forget about it unlike laptop displays/desktop monitors, etc.

JTL Yeah your model number will be really interesting for me. Moreover my brother never disabled some picture enhancements, etc. all options are on default settings.

Harrison I will try and get you the information and maybe some pictures of the settings menus and how they are setup as soon as possible.

I had a bad migraine today (yesterday), was rapidly shifting eyes from paper to screen, room lighting was uneven, eventually my eyes got strained and I started seeing red and blue (before migraine). I took two of my Axert pills and that cleared the migraine within 10 minutes but it causes severe insomnia in me (currently 2 am here)

Ah well I have this time to work on school reports and that like.

      😐

Harrison changed the title to Konjunktivitis Sicca/Sicca Symptomatik .

Cause if we ever find a technical reason for the eyestrain, what should we do? Searching for a fix which will work only under some perticular cirumstances?

What it needs is its own name, something more descriptive then "eye strain".
There's already a variety of fixes. Avoiding PWM or getting ones with extremely high frequency
Changing graphics cards or some such for temporal dithering
      eliminating blue light..

problem is much of it is scattered and un-verified, going off of a single account saying "I think it's better". It's also difficult to identify which is causing what and of overlap.

There was some talk of organizing this info and a few ideas were presented. I can have a wiki installed, utilize a wordpress page, utilize this forum, utilize other places (like wikipedia)

Slacor Wikipedia would be wrong place IMO. WordPress and MediaWiki are the bestidea

        Slacor
yeah thats right. But the problem is that not all of us are suffering from the same problems. Nearly all of us mentionend different issues and problems in our welcome area.
But we need a word different than the harmless "eye strain".

Well of course there are some fixes and ideas. But there's always: ....this works for me, but not for others....

Also I think currently that the theories about PWM are'nt right. More precisely I think that PWM is not the only reason for the problems.

You meant that there's already a variety of fixes. I don't think so. Nearly all your mentioned points are at most just ideas and assumptions. There was never a person who said: ....this was my problem and after this fix I haven't any eyestrain and headache any more.

Hm. Good Idea with the wiki. I think an overview of our ideas and theories would be very interesting and helpful for people. Why not just adding this to this website?

Well the greatest problem is getting information from manufacturers. Let's say temporal dithering is really the problem. Than we have to ask the question which kind of dithering is ok and which kind of dithering is harmful for us. Same on the PWM side. I hope you understand what I mean.

I still don't have answers to basic questions like

        1) Temporal dithering from driver
        2) Temporal dithering from display (FRC)
        3) 1 + 2 = ?
        4) Just 1 or just 2

A lot of this could be solved with access to varying hardware, switching out various components and perceiving different results.. Unfortunately, doing so will cost a small fortune :\ Then there's different people with varying issues... hmm.
As for sites, I have a mediawiki installed at http://wiki.xyzz.work
I haven't done much with it and I might move it to something like info.ledstrain.org or something.

          JTL haha
I needed a generic domain that I could use as a backend for other domains/sites.
.work tld is like $3.5/yr and xyzz is very easy to remember and is pretty much as generic as you can get πŸ˜ƒ
