I bought this tv in 2023 (the model is from 2017) since it is a reference model from sony and probably the best FALD tv in 49" i made this decision based on rtings review due their flicker free graph and the ability to deactivate the local dimming. (since this control is not available on the newer versions of the FALD models)

I tried everything in one day and i am having dificultie already regardgin migraines and dizziness. The tv quality , motion and colors are very good but once again it is not usable for me.

The only model 4K that i can use without any problem is the Sony 43XD8099 (VA panel, edge lit, 10 bit panel, flicker free).

I tried oled with some migraines (Sony A9S) but this XE9005 is even worse :S

The fact that i could disable the local dimming give me will to try it - bad mistake :S it is the same thing…. as the sony falds from other years.

So can i do anything else? Any setting to try beside rtings? Will it be possible for me to adapt after a coupe of weeks or one month? For now my past experiences ranging from 2 weeks to 1 month say no :S

Help anyone?

Thank you!

My personal experience is that I can adapt to screens that only cause eye pain or conventional headaches. I've never been able to adapt to a screen that gave me a migraine.

Seagull Thank you! I will try it for about a month and sell it if i cant adapt…. (given my past experience i dont have much hope)

raven83 I've never been able to adapt, and in the end that brain torture got me more sensible to light flicker. What's the exact model of this 49XE9005? I can't find the review on rtings.

Abeabe sony xe90 is the model.

Right now i am trying mode cinema pro and trumotion enable. Became a bit better lets see how it goes from here…

Abeabe today i wake up and got my brain completely messed up lol like that quote in braveheart: i am fucked 😜

raven83 Oh no, too bad, yeah it seems that the Lord is not going to get us out of this mess, hehe. I hate when my brain gets messed up because of the screens and the worst is that my hangover lasts several days, if I were you, that tv would already be taking a walk where it belongs, in the trash, hehe.

I'm sorry to hear about your experience sir. There have been many times I've told myself "that's it I'm just going to adapt to this thing"- and personally I always ended up regretting it.

Gemsand why do you regret it? Eye strain and migraines got worse?

Currently i disabled everything i could found on this tv. Everything off and cinema pro. Brightness 9 according to rtings best setting for flickering.

I must say the quality of this tv even from 2017 model is very good. The motion is great and much better than the sony a9s oled …

Will try a couple of weeks and if it did not manage to adapt going to sell this beast 😜 or i will be head fryed in the process 😜

                9 months later

After about a month i adapted to this tv…been my living room tv until now…

Currently going trough the same process with an oled and qd oled.

                Lets have hope!

                Thank you

                  5 days later

                  I am having trouble with:

                  Sony 42A90K and Sony 55A95K

I found this old post describing my dificulties wirh the XE90 and i was suffering from the same problems eye sore and headache/migraines.

I adapted to the sony XE90 in about a month….it is curious it is the same problems i have experienced in the past.

I am thinking in returning the tvs….last day is tomorrow….but i am holding back and maybe i will take the risk. We are talking about + 3000 euros in tvs my priciest tvs ever 🤪 i must be crazy but i am really a home cinema enthusiast….

Unfortunately i dont have many luck with tvs and girls lol

                  Fingers crossed and good vibes…

raven83 did you adapt to it completely? You don’t have any symptoms?

And when you had to adapt to it, did you had a severe eye strain and also headaches, especially after you slept and feel your eyes hard?

I have a problem with almost every OS platform and tried for a day to adapt to it but it was a nightmare.

                    twomee

Yes i fully adapt to the sony XE90 49" tv in about a month more or less that was a Big landmark for me!

Want to replicate that with oled lol

raven83 i have no problems with os win 10 or 11 on dell ips monitors 24" or dell laptops with ips full hd screens

raven83 interesting, I’m curious if your problem was an hardware of a software regard the Sony TV.

I have eye strain due some software issues which I’m trying to find. But my curiosity is that you adapt to it so maybe everyone can adapt to it, depend only in the time, no matter if it’s a software or hardware issue.

You also had a sleep problem(like insomnia) when you tried to adapt to it?

And how much time did you watch in the TV every day? An hour? All day?

                          twomee i never had insonia…

I dont know if everyone can adapt… but i know one thing adaptation to led is much easier than to adapt to oled….

I dont know of i will make it this time but will try

                          Right now

Contrast and brighness in low values and a lamp behind the tv acting as a bias light and reduce the tv view time isy strategy

                          I will keep.updates.here…

                          15 days later

Had to return the sony 42'' oled

Strugling with the sony 55" qd oled… one month more to experiment and then sell since i missed the return window and decided to risk (bad mistake)

                          Updates in my other post….

                          Any suggestions are welcome

                          Thank you!
