Xiaomi sells 6bit+FRC panels as true 8bit color

Redmi 27 60Hz (RMMNT27NF) -> MV270FHB-N20 (6bit+FRC)

Redmi A27 100Hz (P27FBA-RA) -> MV270FHB-NX0 (6bit+FRC)

There are many twin brothers from Chinese vendors

100Hz 6bit+FRC - AIWA MF270A | Lime F270L

165Hz 6bit+FRC - MSI G2712 | Cooler Master GM27-FFS

Forgive me for the advice to buy Xiaomi. I was a fool.

True 8bit FullHD is a lie. Uncle Liao cheated again.

On the other hand, Apple seem to also use dithering even on 10 bit panels. Just their stupid habit regardless of the panels.

    so who sells real 8 bit or 10 bits panels and doesn't use temporal dithering?

      It is likely that all FullHD IPS monitors, up to 27 inches, have 6bit + FRC. It's just that they don't write to us about it. Portable monitors are no exception. Starting with 1440p IPS/VA from 27-32 inches, already true 8bit color.

        AlanSmith someone did test the uperfect portable monitor which had no dithering so wouldn't that be true 8bit at least ?

          table for ASUS ZenScreen

          - all FullHD IPS 6bit+FRC

          - 1440p / 2160p 8bit+FRC

          - FullHD OLED 8bit+FRC

          Uperfect 18" 2,5K 8bit+FRC

            AlanSmith I elaborated on some of that over here.

            Think I read somewhere that the vast majority of 1080p IPS panels are 6-bit+FRC (i.e use integrated dithering to achieve 8-bit color). You may be thinking "were there not good monitors in the past?". I think historically, 24" 1920x1200 IPS panels didn't use dithering and were often relegated for professional use, as opposed to a "consumer" product.

              JTL If your monitor does not support 10bit color via DisplayPort. You have a 6bit + FRC panel. Follow this rule

              AlanSmith but if you disable HDR on uperfect it should only be 8bit without FRC I thought ?

                jordan Most likely, HDR10 mode is simply software (dithering) and can be easily disabled.
