G814JVR is mine. But I see the other part of the code is different, maybe because of the country?…

Mine is G814JVR-N6002 and I see in the US you have G814JVR-IS96.

The G814J code is for g18 strix. Then, the letter V is the rtx 4060. Then the letter R stands for 2024. But the rest of the code…I have no idea what it means.

I think they all are back illuminated. Mine included. Why do you ask about backlit? Are you afraid about the brain punch you get from the white color? That’s gone.

"18" QHD+ Nebula display" - is that the same as IPS?

@Andreiid using hwinfo, could you write whats your avg battery drain using iGPU and nvidia…?

simplex It’s high. I get about 2-4 hours max. The i9 14900hx cpu is not efficient at all. I mean is a gaming beast. Plus the huge size of the display. This is a mix of usage, when windows decides what card to use.

yeah. with the pro 7 gen 9 I would get 2.5 hours max of basically only browsing the web. That’s a problem.

Dadab12 I don't really care about the battery. I mean I don't really care about mostly anything except screen and speed. It's a bulky and ugly mofo at 3kg without charger. But as long as I can use it comfortably I don't mind the battery.

As you can see in the first post above, I do prefer slim and compact laptops. I just couldn’t find anything that works for me. Sooooo…it is what it is.

The Strix is indeed an ugly son of a bitch. I wish someone guaranteed the screen would work me, and like you I would just live with it’s ugliness and size.

balthazar That’s the 2023 model. Hope it works for you. I haven’t test it but as far as I know they come with BOE panels, as they tested in this review. Intel processor codes follows the year. 13900 is 2023. 14900 is 2024. In case that doesn’t work for you and you would like the 4070 video card specifically, this would be the right model. IF it comes in the US/CA with the same Sharp panel. As far as I know bestbuy have good return policy anyway.

Andreiid Oh damn. Thanks for the heads-up. Because I'm a dummy I got the wrong model. Oh well…we'll see how it works out. They do have the 2024 model as well. So, maybe I'll try that one if this one doesn't work…

P.S. Doesn't have to be a 4070 for me. I just want a modern laptop that isn't killing my eyes.
Btw, magnesium supplementation has increased my overall tolerance of screens (I should probably make a separate post about it). And probiotics too - I already did make a post about that.

Yes, please do a post about this. I take magnesium from time to time, actually a complex of vitamins/minerals, but just once a month or so and I can’t tell if it has any effect on the eyes. I am curious at what quantity you start feeling a difference.

Andreiid I take Magnesium Glycinate 320mg/day (80mg*2 w breakfast; 80mg*2 w supper) - just creates a light, and pleasant sensation in my head, and I experience less eye strain/fog.

The 2023 model of Asus Strix G18 is giving me eye strain. Went to the store that has the 2024 model in the showroom - also eye strain.

I'll try to fiddle with dithering.exe, different versions of Windows, etc. But so far, I haven't noticed anything special about this model,

In the store are you sure you tested the strix model and not the scar? I have the laptop for 32 days now and I still have no strain.

Is it a possibility that was wrong testing the 2023 and 2024 versions back to back and your eyes are still tired no matter what you look at? Maybe you have the time to come back to the store after at least 24 hours of not using any display that strain your eyes.

Also try to turn off Panel Self Refresh in Intel Command Center.

I recently bought an HP Omen RTX 4070 and it instantly gave me the familiar eyestrain and migraines that I've had for 12 years. I have multiple working laptops (Dell XPS 15 9560 / GTX 1050) and a working desktop (RTX 3070 and Dell SN2421 monitors).

Your post made me check HWInfo on my working machines - working setups are using Sharp or Dell panels, and the only display which was terrible is BOE - whites feel far too bright even at low levels, my brain almost physically recoils from the screen before migraines begin. Perhaps there's something in this…

Did you happen to get the panel model in the Zephyrus G16? Was it also a Sharp panel? Someone on eBay has looked up their G14 2024 OLED panel for me and it’s a Samsung.

si_edgey is the 9560 sharp panel the touchscreen 4k one? I know someone else that said the sharp panels are comfortable.

si_edgey Yes, I am still using it without issues. The only situation where I get dizzy is when I turn on G-Sync. But if I leave it off is fine. Another issue is that I am doing photography and bought this laptop to edit pics and videos, but this is a gaming laptop and now I am addicted to gaming!!! Sigh

If I remember correctly, the Zephyrus G16 had amoled and I think only Samsung makes amoleds. I might be wrong, but u can check notebookcheck.

jordan I actually only have the 1080p ones - I don't get on well with glossy displays so I don't bother with touchscreen panels. I do have 5x 9560 laptops (use them for work too and you can get them for about £250 on eBay now, still plenty fast for most purposes) and they're all Sharp panels.
