Have anybody managed to install/configure steam os in a strain free way ?

Hi. I'm using Steam OS on my PC (HoloISO). It's fine for gaming and dekstop but using browser (firefox) gives me eyestrain. At first it was OK even for browsing. I dont know what changed. After 3.5 update you can change color depth and temperature in the settings. I put Vibrance on Native and dont change temperature.

I use it and more now because my regular machine doesn't have HEVC decoding, but the deck isn't a perfect device.. the OLED version has to be avoided (bad pwm). The LCD version is ok to use handheld, but the AMD GPU drivers and/or BIOS needs work for desktop mode. I don't regret buying it, but I do wish the desktop mode was as good as my Windows machine. I use a different input on my monitor, so I don't know if there's a separate chip processing that port on the monitor that sucks compared to the HDMI input port, or if it's the same chip, and it's all the dongle, the dock, the device drivers, bios, etc.

I'm good at configuring things, so I've done a lot in terms of font rendering, themes, resolution modelines, even browser configuration but there is something with the output that isn't as good. Also that gaming mode settings for games needs to be different than gaming in desktop mode settings.

Gaming mode uses their own Wayland compositor, and the desktop mode uses X.Org with the KDE Kwin compositor. Pros and cons to both.
