Reinhard62 For me 22H2 is unusable on most devices, even with Basic Display or old drivers, noticeably worse compared to previous versions.
The only exception is my Surface Pro 4 (i5 HD 520) where somehow 22H2 seems OK! (Not sure if this would apply to the i7 Iris model though…)
However, the samsung PLS panel in the SP4 still generally has a physically harsh backlight even in the BIOS / still causes some irritating strain, but at least the image I'm seeing looks "pretty easy to read/crisp/pure/not hazy" and it's generally tolerable. Note this is only true with old Dec 2015 Intel drivers, latest ones feel off to me.
This SP4 is actually one of the unique cases for me where the strain happens "independently" from the image, on other devices I can directly correlate the strain to a part of the image that feels disorienting/out of focus to me. However, on the SP4 the image looks generally clean/flat, but the eyestrain still happens anyway lol.
Interestingly, while watching videos or in Zoom meetings on the SP4 it's fine! It's actually my go-to device for those things since the colors/contrast is nice without feeling like it's messing with my brain. Writing long documents and coding is where the strain starts (even though the text is still readable).
The SP4 is very much the "exception" to other devices, where OS/GPU is less connected than usual for me (drivers are still important though), and the physical light and HiDPI seem more likely to be the problem. I have no idea why though.
side note about Surfaces, DO NOT TRY the Snapdragon 13"/15" Surface Laptop 7 LOL.
I tested ~30 new laptops at the store recently, nearly all of them sucked and caused strain. (Only ones that seemed to have potential were some low-end HP and MSI Stealth AI Studio 16)
However, the Surface Laptop 7 (all 3 of them at the store) was the only laptop that sucked SO MUCH that it legitimately felt "like they used the same processing as the mini-LED MacBook Pro". I couldn't even focus on a SINGLE icon in the UI, or read just one line of text without getting double vision, and EVERYTHING looked like it was blurry/shimmering/vibrating/moving. Display settings said the IPS panel was from Sharp.
