Finally found a perfectly useable Windows Laptop!! Enjoy!

Hi,

I ordered the DELL Latitude 7450 GV98K yesterday directly at DELL and it just arrived. Sadly, it casuses mild eyestrain. I just looked up the display type, and mine is a LG 400 Nits 8 bit display, not the BOE 🙁 So I still wonder where you bought your notebook!

ulib Its always tricky with panels, as these are not in the specification, hence it means there is no legally binding contract between buyer and seller. The only route I was thinking about - hoping that somone would say LG laptops are great, since it would be unlikely for them to use non-LG panel external suppliers.

Donux I think there have been cases where some LG brand monitors have used panels sourced from third parties. So there are exceptions to the rule.

Is this the "Ultralight" or regular version of this? I'm looking to order it but can't find the GV98K indicator anywhere (ordering on the US website if that matters)

ocean10 I spent extensive time on the Dell US website and couldn’t find that model code. I think it’s a spec that is available in Europe as a pre built/ready to ship model. It shows up on several European reseller websites if you look it up. That being said you can mostly configure a custom 7450 on the US to match the config of that model code. Although picking the 400 nit non touch LCD limits the CPU/RAM config somewhat.

Yeah, I noticed that about the CPU/RAM etc. But I'll take anything I can get at this point if I could find a new computer that works.

Did you end up ordering it?

asus389 It is always easier to buy these things on ebay, since its a bit more straight forward to shoot a message to a seller and ask to provide hardware ids. As for Dell, they might say it could x, y, or z, and we can not tell which you will get from the warehouse.

But before I send it back I'll try it with Windows 10. After updating my always safe t480s to windows 11 last week I had to imediatly reverese the update due to bad headache. I didn't thought this could happen to me on the t480s.

If the Dell gets better when using WIn 10 I'll post it here.

By the way: On the Pain-Level the 7450 is a 5 out 10 compared to newer Lenovo models which are a 10 out of 10.

ulib I recently bought the same model with same specifications. But the Display turned out to be a different model causing me medium eye strain.

Try replacing the panel with AUO B140XTN02.D TN display, look for units of that panel that were manufactured in 2015 or earlier, it solved my eye strain on T480

(tried 6 different 1080p/900p IPS panels including the stock one and they all caused eye strain, but this AUO TN didn't)

dont you found, modern panels you tried, had "another" backlight? not color reproduction, but shine - more spreaded, more calmly…?

Do you happen to know any laptop models this panel was used in? I have been unable to find this panel available independently with an older manufacturing date, so I thought it might be easier to try to harvest one from a secondhand laptop.

Firstly Stephan thank you for the post. It is really helpful when someone posts an actual potential solution on here. I will contact Dell and try to get the same spec panel. I live in Spain. A link would have been helpful but I imagine it is more complicated than that. It seems even if you order the same laptop you did it can come with an LG panel.

DisplaysNotTv thank you also for your comments. I would like to buy the panel you recommend. But can you recommend a laptop it will fit onto? I currently use a Dell XPS 9560 and I don't think it will fit that.

The B140XTN02.D fits the Lenovo ThinkPad T480 or T480s

Or any other 14.0" 16:9 aspect ratio ThinkPad with eDP screen connector, which started with 2014 ThinkPads

(not the Yoga ones though, since their more complex screen assembly doesn't allow for screen swaps)

Other similar laptops with an easily swappable 14.0" eDP LCD (such as some Dell Latitudes) may also work too.

Note that the B140XTN02.D does have some mild backlight flicker (e.g. slight brightness dip on every frame, but not the bad strobe-style PWM type).

Fortunately this doesn't cause an issue for me, and IMO shouldn't affect your decision on whether to try it or not. I've tried so many laptops/panels, and B140XTN02.D is one of the only few that I'm truly able to be productive on.

Update: Dell were very friendly and this is the response I got:

Unfortunately , we would not have any option to check which internal components will be included as it completely depends on the component availability during the time of building the laptop and its same for other components like SSD and motherboard
Once again , I apologize for the inconvenience caused and Hope you understand my limitations as a frontline sales agent.

So there is no way 100% to get the exact same model as Stephan. One would have to order and see.

I might try a few 8-bit monitor panels first. Cheers all,

@Stephan-M I am trying to find a Windows 11 (I use Windows 10 on a desktop right now) based laptop and have tried 20+ over the last 2 years. Until recently, I wasn't aware of all the differences to try out before my most recent laptop which was the Thinkpad T14S with a specific FHD screen 1080p. It's tough to say if that one is working for me on Windows 11, because if I get the updates so that I can turn down the brightness, after awhile, my eyes start feeling tired. I had seen this post before and was wondering how it's been going for you still? And when I look at the Dell website, would this be the correct panel screen to get?
