I am OK with the LCD screens on my old notebooks (3x Dell Latitude, 1x HP Elitebook). However, only the TN panel type works for me. Btw none of the classical monitors (IPS/TN/VA) worked for me. Conclusion: find a way how to connect notebook panel to my PC/notebook. There is an LCD controller board that can connect your notebook display (after detaching it from the notebook) to your PC as a screen or to your notebook as a second monitor. I tried 2x controllers with 2x LCD panels, but neither of them worked. One of them was receiving a signal but showed no picture, and the other one received no signal at all.

Does anybody have any experience with this LCD controller board? Is it working? If yes, is the quality of picture same as when it was a part of original notebook? Is it worth trying?

    Jonke only the TN panel type works for me

    Which panels works for you?

    • Lenovo Thinkpad E531 - LED backlight => OK
    • Dell Latitudes (2x notebooks between 2008-2015) - TN i assume => OK
    • Dell Latitude E6430 - TN => OK
    • HP ProBook 440 G6 - IPS => not good
    • HP ProBook 450 G8 - IPS => not good
    • HP Elitebook 840 G3 - TN => OK
    • HP Elitebook 845 G8 - IPS => bad
    • HP Elitebook 645 G9 - IPS => bad

    Unfotunately, I do not own any TN yet so i do not know the exact panel name.

    What i can say that working on old TN was fine. Switching to IPS worse and last generation IPS really bad. But I am talking about notebook. Since 2008 none of LCD desktop monitor was OK for me. Strange but i accepted the fact that notebook is the only option for me. That is a reason why i try to make from notebook panel using LCD contoller board my second monitor.

      Any LED lights around you?

      Old panels are not good in terms of spectrums. Some LED tests shows, blue peak increase 10% each 2000 hrs

      I have had this problem since I started working in 2008. Since then, many conditions have changed—such as jobs, office locations, places, and operating systems—but the problem still persists.

        Controller boards are not universal. Just google "[panel_name] controller board" to find a controller that is compatible with your panel. I also reccomend to check panel/board compatibility with the seller before purchasing.

        Using controlled board a little bit complicated for PC. At least, panels need brightness control. Not sure controllers provide such abilities.

        Can you show board example you tried ?

        I saw LED panel testers, but they only switch test-images images and do not need PC

          simplex They do provide the ability to control brightness, contrast, saturation etc. There are a lot videos/articles about making DIY monitor from a laptop panel + controller. e.g. this.

            Fidelis In my case I'm looking for the opposite - are you aware of any HDMI-to-LVDS/eDP controller boards that do NOT apply post processing to the image like contrast/gamma correction/sharpness, and instead simply 1:1 pass through the unaltered colors of the HDMI signal to the panel?

              Just out of curiosity, which LCD desktop displays have you tried out? if possible, mention the specific model number.
              It'd be interesting if it turns out that you can only use CCFL-based displays ("TFT"-LCD), but I doubt that's the case here.

              DisplaysShouldNotBeTVs No, unfortunately I don't know if such controllers exist, my board allows to control these setting and it seems to be some Realtek chip.
