I found something that i think is very interesting. I have huge trouble working with screens, with exception after replacing the entire screen (cheap one from ebay) of my iphone 5, i was able to start reading the screen for hours. Now i have replaced the glass of my ipad 4 (not original, and replace only the glass where the polarized film is placed) and same thing happened.

I think the solution for me and many of us could be to replace the polarized film (or add a new one). Bellow are some youtube vídeos that show how the polarized film work.

With the polarized film, its possible to complete darken the screen even with 100% brightness, just by rotating the polarized film! After replacing the polarized filter in iphone 5 and ipad 4, colors are more washed and it look there is no/less temporal dithering, it give me no eye pain. Also it's possible to have 100% brightness (no pwm for many monitors) and only very low visible backlight, just by rotating the film).

It's possible to buy cheap polarized film from china to test it. You nedd to choose the size and angle. I suggest to buy a very big polarized filter, to try with several screens. Remember that to find the best angle, the polarized film need to rotate. Im not sure if its necessary to remove the "old" polarized film because i havent try it that way.

Hope you understand my poor english. Thanks

eyestrainsolutions I have thought about this already, tried polarized glasses, thought it works but later realized its just Ive build up tolerance after not being exposed to the triggers for a long time again.
However, did you replace the screen on the phone yourself? And where did you buy it?
Maybe I could get an iphone SE and try equipping it with a shittier screen to save myself the pain of using iphone 4s in 2018. This could also prove to me the problem indeed only is the LEDs and nothing else with the screen or OS.

I'm trying to upgrade my Dell XPS 13 from the 2015 model to the 2017 model... but keep the screen I love. We'll see if the new Intel integrated graphics on the 2017 model are as good for my eyes as the older ones... and of course I'll be leaving it at LTSB 2015.

martin The iphone replacement screens are very cheap. I have replaced my iphone 5 sceen. I would also like to try and replace the screen of a newer iphone, but unfortunatly its very expensive to try (afraid to brake the expensive iphone). I also have tried the polarized sunglassses and it didn't work. With the sunglasses its also not possible to change the polarized film angle, so not good to try.

Polarized film. This is a big one, but it's good to try with diferente screen size. In the end you can cut it with the angle and size that you want.

eyestrainsolutions so for you this worked by adding another polarized layer (at the right angle) on top of the monitor or screen you already use? you did not remove the old polarized layer?

i am looking at this polarized sheet here:

        https://www.ebay.com/itm/For-1pc-24-inch-16-9-0-degree-Polarizer-Film-for-LCD-Screen-PC-monitor-Z62/202136291933?hash=item2f10430a5d:g:I9EAAOSw~QRaJgXx&vxp=mtr

any extra input would be great in terms of angle, and if you still think it is not necessary to remove the old polarized layer?

Wrightpt1 I have not add another polarized layer, because i replace the entire screen of the iphone 5, and also replace the glass of the ipad 4, the old polarized films were removed.

I think it may work adding another polarized layer, but i haven't tryed it yet. The film from ebay look very good. You can cut the film for smaller screens after finding the "good" angle. Also you don't need to glue the film to screen to test it, just place a litle duct tape in the edge of the film. To find the best angle you need to try it, because each screen have diferente angles, that's way it's importante to order a film bigger than the size of the screen you want to use it.

For bigger screens, you can find the "good" angle with a smaller film. After you know the "good" angle, you can order a new film with the right angle and size.

Keep us update! Hope it work for you. Also don't give up if it don't work the first hours/days. The eyes (at least my eyes), need to rest a few day/weeks after using "bad" screens.

          Good luck!

Good stuff. Do you remember what angle you put in the new iPhone? The polarized films I see all tend to be 90 degrees.

And maybe what angle you took out of the iphone? The original polarized film.

Wrightpt1 I don't know the angle, because i bought the entire iphone 5 screen ( cheap one from ebay), that already have the film placed.

In this vídeo you can see what changing the angle do to the image. In this vídeo the image look to be bad with the polarized film, but it isn't, the image will be darker and colors more washed, but still good quality. You can also increase the monitor brightness. Even not removing the "old" polarized film, i believe the image will also change.

Wrightpt1 You really have to try the film to know the best angle for your eyes. The best angle may not be the "right" monitor angle. For exemple if you rotate the film a litlle more, it will darken the image. I think no one in our situations, have ever tried this possible solution, so we are the "guineapigs". I have big hope that this will work for many, as it worked for me.

            a month later

I decided not to do this. well i did something very similar but messed up the monitor. I dont think it will solve my issues. I tried polarized glasses and it really did not help sadly. but please keep us posted on your progress.

I am sorry i could not be more help.
