Hello,

I'd like to build a new PC or buy a good used one. I wanted to know what the best components for a new PC are to avoid eye strain.

I've noticed that Nvidia is causing a lot of eye strain. I'm currently using a Lenovo Legion 5 Pro with an RTX 3060. I can't work on the internal monitor or connect it to an external monitor. My eyes start to burn after a few minutes.

If I connect one of my monitors (HPx2301) to an old laptop with Intel graphics, I can work on it for hours without any problems. But with the Nvidia card in the Legion, my eyes start to burn after just a few minutes of using the same monitor.

Unfortunately, I can't use older graphics cards because I need high performance. I also have to use Windows 11 because I need the latest security patches. Windows 10 support is ending soon.

I've had problems with Nvidia graphics cards in the past and have always switched to AMD. This always solved the problems.

What should I use for my new computers? Intel Arc? AMD Radeon? AMD processor, Intel processor? What's the best way?

Thank you in advance for your support.

There are two things here, one is, you don't have to leave Windows 10.. if you switch your 10 edition to LTSC you will still continue receiving patches.

As for graphic cards, you already said you're fine with AMD, but I haven't seen anyone complaining about Intel's Battlemage B580 card which isn't overpriced so you might have decent results with that one too.

win10 didnt support E-cores well (win11 - does)

Using win10 1809 (safe) and 12+ gen intel CPU you can get same power for all P/E cores which is bad. I think for intel, 12400/12600 which not have E-cores, is good option.

Secondary, I suppose XMP or OC destroys intel CPU memory controller due to increased voltage. All safty combinations I met, were DDR4 jedec 3200 (CL22), or DDR5 jedec 4800 (CL40), or DDR4X 4266 CL38. I mean, all were jedec bases (not XMP or EXPO)

Thirdly, good motherboard and PSU: with excellent power filters (no extra voltage crosstalk), with good design

I also really need to build a new, up-to-date PC—mine is becoming more and more obsolete.

Here’s the setup my cousin had six years ago; it’s the most recent PC I’ve been able to use and play on for hours.

Processor: Intel Core i5-4670K 3.40 GHz

RAM: 8 GB

OS: Windows 7 64-bit

GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 580

Monitors:

• Iiyama Prolite B2481HS 23.6’’ LED TN 1920x1080 2ms DVI-D / HDMI (connected via DVI-D)

• Iiyama Prolite E2273HDS-B1 21.5’’ LED 1920x1080 2ms VGA / DVI-D / HDMI (connected via VGA)

But I don’t know what it was about this particular setup that suited me. Even back then, I already had issues with most other PCs.
