Hello,
I have serious difficulties being in public places due to the increasing presence of screens placed randomly everywhere, whether in bars, restaurants, gyms… as well as the screens of other passengers in public transport.
Strangely, some screens don’t hurt my eyes—for example, self-service ordering kiosks in fast-food restaurants, information boards in train stations, and often the computers used by doctors. These must have specific operating systems that don’t trigger discomfort for me.
I am a trainee teacher in high schools. Sometimes, the equipment is old enough for me to tolerate it. Older long-throw projectors cause me less discomfort—they are at least bearable—though the computers they are connected to can still trigger a reaction. Short-throw projectors can also cause issues if they are connected to a computer that I cannot tolerate.
Valium has always significantly reduced my symptoms while its effects last.
At the moment, I am taking 150 mg of Venlafaxine. Since the beginning of the year, I have been attending a stretching class once a week at a dance school. For the first time, I feel that these stretching exercises are truly improving my flexibility.
Lately, I have the impression that I am tolerating ambient screens in urban environments slightly better. I still cannot work on a computer except for my own, which is an antique, but I can now handle having a screen in my field of vision for a few minutes when necessary. I wonder if this improvement is due to the antidepressant, which is also prescribed for neuropathic pain, or if it’s because my neck is becoming more flexible, possibly leading to better stability.
