If a flicker free monitor did not actually flicker, I think it would be fine, but It does flicker. flicker free as it is marketed refers only to the back-light. there are several other sources of flicker. the panel can dither even if its 8bit. the video card can dither even if its disabled in the driver or with xrandr (confirmed by nvidia tech support). the OS can dither, and there is some other flicker that I don't have a name for. In all OS there is a flicker that extends from the mouse pointer in a cone down and to the right. There is also polarity switching of the LCD Crystals that is a potential for flicker, though I don't think that one is an issue.
if i were to look through a moving screen door mesh, i am fairly sure I would have the same symptoms, but I have never tried. if I look at dithering on the Eink, it is bothersome, but fortunately I can change the color or do things to get rid of it. the problem on LCD is you can't see where the flicker is. some colors don't dither others do.
