Linux distro what won't update BIOS? Laptop needs repaired.

Hi,

Unfortunately the charger port of my Lenovo Thinkpad needs replacement. It's a bit more complicated so I'm sending it to a repair shop.

I took out the HD already and am thinking of booting from a USB drive just to verify the shop fixed it (i.e. I see it charging right).

I'm thinking of getting Ubuntu on a flash drive and not giving it a wifi which hopefully means it won't accidentally update the BIOS.

Any ideas if there's a distro that won't do any BIOS updates?

What you propose should be fine. As long as you don't install to disk, it shouldn't touch boot sector/UEFI variables/etc at all.

Also this assumes the repair shop doesn't try to be "helpful" and update the BIOS while its in for service.

AFAIK Live CD's make no changes to your system whatsoever. Nothing is written to your machine unless you install the OS, so you should be good
