"Regarding your inquiry about the TCL 60 XE NXTPAPER 5G screen specifications:
Yes, the device utilizes temporal dithering—also known as Frame Rate Control (FRC)—to enhance perceived color depth. It features a native 8-bit panel and employs FRC to simulate a higher bit-depth, effectively delivering smoother gradients and a broader range of colors. This method allows the panel to approximate 10-bit color output, improving the overall visual experience."
Why can't they be satisfied with 8 bits of color output or else use a real 10-bit panel? I don't understand why no matter which color depth these panels are, they almost always use FRC to increase the color depth. For an e-ink experience display, it's just bizarre using dithering when all the marketing about this display is about its eye comfort features.
Eye and brain comfort come first. Everything else is secondary.
