Bigme Hibreak Pro and eink phone thread

lets discuss. my hibreak pro triggers symptoms but it has lots of eink settings that can be tweaked.

Ive been able to use my Hisense a9 w lineage os to dev with all day.. but it doesnt get good cell coverage in the US and doesnt have otg.

reaganry did you disable auto clean and use fast mode? I do notice scrolling on it does seem more flickery than the 6.7in dasung link eink phone monitor

Do you not have any symptoms on the a9 then?

I run lineage on my HBP (and old A9), but don't get eye strain from either. Vendor ROMs are ok for both for me too.

I think I've narrowed my screen eye strain and nausea problems (in order) to:
1. temporal dithering
2. PWM
3. direct light

Neither device has any of those as far as I know. Think it's the ghosting removal algorithm on the HBP that's the problem for you?

ah maybe ill try lineage but it didnt seem as ez to do as w the a9. do you have otg functionality with that? its hard bc every app has a different setting. is there a way to set the default? Do you disable antishake and autoclean and use fast mode w no text enhancement?Rowe

jordan a9 lineage is pretty much symptom free on smooth setting

I found the HBP easier to flash, despite writing the A9 guide 🙂 I did skip all the backup stuff which seem a faff though, which in hindsight was a mistake.

2 words of warning though:
- Lineage on the HBP is currently abandoned, and it isn't as polished as Damien's A9 ROM (e.g. battery life is maybe 20% worse than vendor and some have issues with the AOD)
- I haven't heard of anyone saying the HBP custom rom is better than vendor for eye strain

I use the custom ROM clear mode for books and balanced mode for everything else with auto clean on (for me this is the main benefit over the A9), anti-shake and text enhancement off.

'is there a way to set the default?' the VBHA rom uses Damian's eink centre. you both set a default mode, and can set per app modes

Hello. My eyes are very sensitive to flickering light. I have been looking for devices that I can use without headaches for a long time. I bought a Bigme Hibreak phone about half a year ago and have been using it ever since. The Eink screen in this phone is the best I have ever had. This screen is the least distracting and tiring for my eyes.

The phone runs an older Android and there are some compromises that you have to make if you want to use it. It doesn't do as much as a regular smartphone, it is not ideal for web browsing. But if you have sensitive eyes, this will help. I have had no problems with Bigme's customer service.
