I just wanted to share that my photophobia greatly improved when I switched from OLED to Eink. Now I am not sure if there are OLEDs out there that dont cause it but I assume every OLED overstimulates our photoreceptors in our eyes. Regarding eye spasm I believe there was a doctor who posted here awhile back saying LED light in general mess up how our eyes focus and is the reason why eye doctors use filament light sources in their test equipment. He said for that reason he uses a CCFL monitor and not LED. If I use my old OLED phone (xiaomi 13t) I can feel my eyes go in a spasm VERY quickly. I do find certain phones to cause instant dry eye. For example the xiaomi 13 caused dry eye but the xiaomi 13t did not. The worst phones I've laid my eyes upon: iPhone 11 and SE 2020. Both of those LCD phones triggered instant dry eye, eye spasm, anxiety and depression like symptoms and they also made my vision blurry. The OLED phones above also made my vision blurry. I still am also wondering if there are better OLEDs that dont cause blurriness but does seem LED just is cursed. I avoid LCD phones since they all seem to push non native color depths which introduces temporal dithering/FRC (pixel flicker)
I think Eink is most safe and also RLCD which sadly there are no RLCD phones but there are tablets and monitors that are such as the eazeye 2.0 rlcd monitor, svd eve 24in rlcd monitor, daylight dc1 rlcd/tlcd tablet, hannsnote 2 rlcd tablet, harborino paper 7 rlcd tablet and hisense q5 rlcd tablet.
