Why is my new OLED monitor making me feel sick, and is there anything I can do about it? https://www.reddit.com/r/OLED_Gaming/comments/1kcjc0s/why_is_my_new_oled_monitor_making_me_feel_sick/
Top-rated comment: "Try matte OLED or move to IPS. I have same monitor and even though my problem is not as massive, IPS is still far more comfortable for me."
So, looks like I'm in the norm finding IPS much more comfortable than OLED.
Another says:
"I doubt matte versus glossy is the issue, considering how glossy my 2020 MacBook Air screen is. OLED screens do have an inherent flicker, even outside of PWM because I’ve tested it with an 1/6400 shutter speed camera. Even at 100% brightness, it was still the dreaded slow black moving line (which is what you don’t want). There’s at least 4 other types of flicker outside of PWM and temporal dithering too."
Another: "I had to return my QD OLED for the same reasons. I read something about being the blue backlight causing discomfort along with the flickering. Went back to IPS."
Another: "Sold my PG27AQN 360 hz IPS and got the AW2725DF 360 QD-OLED and my eyes were hurting so much looking at this screen i returned it after a week of using it and got the XG27AQDMG 240 hz. Got a good black friday deal for 500 dollars and for now i like it. "
What % of people do you suppose generally find OLED more comfortable than IPS? Certainly must be a minority? I generally only hear people complain about IPS on this unique forum.
Here's another post:
"Is it me or did anyone else, when changing to an OLED monitor, have headaches or eyes hurting looking at the screen?😅 I had a 4k 27 inch IPS monitor and was fine. But when I just got my OLED monitor, I was watching anime with my one lamp on like always but my eyes started to hurt until I turned on a second light and kinda scooted back my chair.... Is this just cuz I'm not used to OLED brightness yet? Anyone else experience this when they got theirs?😅 I have 15% blue light from windows on too, to help but not wash out to many colors."
I have read a backlight helps OLED be more comfortable. I mean some lighting in the room behind the screen.
