Seagull Sparkle effect is caused by a too aggressive matte coating. You don't see it on non-matte displays, or displays with mild coatings. I like IPS or PLS, I had a VA tv once, it was alright but viewing angles are narrow like TN.
The monitors at work are a Samsung LED that I find comfortable to use, perhaps even more so than the one I have at home. Matte vs glossy, and also different computer too.. current laptop is an Intel 4000 using an old driver while my home computer is a 6000..
What's interesting is, one of the monitors at the office failed, so I called in for a replacement. They brought in a new one, same model. But the display panel was not the same. It looked and felt different despite being the same model number and casing. The old ones were probably PLS and the replacement one was probably something off a cheaper line. I can use that monitor, but I avoid doing so because I still have a choice.
