Have we all just given up on Windows 11?

I'm finding some tweaks really do improve things, but not sure it's at the point I could use it for a full working day yet..

Those are: colour depth and format tweaks in Nvidia control panel, disabling scaling, and disabling dithering through Novideo SRGB.

It still feels to me like there's something underlying that needs to be killed, but it's definitely better than it was.

markdotpeters5 What about brand new spanky laptops or desktops? I have seen in public people working with them and are fine. Maybe the issue is - most forum members use prehistoric machines from times when dinosaurs were around?

Also, another thing that seems to have made a reasonable difference is switching from two monitors to one.. maybe they're different in some way, but my Omen 27q is much more comfortable with these settings than my Iiyama ultrawide (although they're both fine on Windows 10).

Perhaps the dithering algorithm is just different on both monitors which makes it very difficult to adjust to as I'm constantly looking at two different versions?

Try switching main monitor in display settings.
I have found that dithering algorithm is applied differently to main and external monitors.
I use ditherig.exe and it disables dithering on laptop monitor + main monitor (external or not).
So by having two external monitors connected to a laptop you will have dithering on at least one of them.
All this tested on Windows 11.

Donux another good point! My hardware isn't terribly new.. but I have tried the Snapdragon Sufrace models and they weren't good at all

markdotpeters5 Ohh Surface is not good when it comes to PWM. Microsoft is replicating the same model as apple does, and it definitely must involve use of PWM, since they want to hit that sweet spot of compromises for consumer devices. As for as windows 10 better theory, so far I have seen people switching 10 21H2, then Windows 7, and something changes for them, and here you go again. Its a viscious circle.

Donux PWM is easily circumvented by using a 'safe' monitor that doesn't use it.. even without that though, it's impossible for me to use Windows 11 and I don't see anyone trying any more 🙁

The problem is DirectX 12. Windows 11 has a deeper integration with it than Windows 10, and uses DirectWrite and DirectDraw for more UI elements than Windows 10 did. This cannot be fixed or changed.

markdotpeters5 You can try things like patching, running your video signal through a downgrading KVM switch, various monitor filters, and see f you can get something that works good enough for you. but unfortunately the root cause of the issue cannot be remedied. It is a core part of Windows now. We are not a large enough group of people for Microsoft to care about, so they are not going to notice or change anything.
