I've been lurking this forum the last few days since I'm thinking of getting an external monitor, and this is a helpful summary. I've never looked into these things before. Thank you.
Is there a good way to find out which monitors don't use frame rate control? Most manufacturer websites don't seem to list it, as far as I've seen, and people here are saying displayspecifications.com isn't all that reliable.
Also, matte finishes. The closest I've found as a way to check these is that Rtings.com tests separately for "direct reflections" and "total reflected light." I'm guessing that the perfect balance is a 'bad' score in direct reflections, so clearer reflections, which would probably mean the screen is less grainy; but a 'good' score in total reflected light, so you don't get a lot of glare.
In addition to what's on the table, I saw a thread saying to beware of KSF phosphors https://ledstrain.org/d/3635-avoid-ksf-phosphors-and-hdr-feature-for-a-strain-free-monitor, so I've been looking at the number of colors advertised.
