Anyway, the Moto Edge 2025 dithers heavily. The Moto Edge 2024 doesn't dither at all. Both pieces of data from Nick at Android Central.
I find the Edge 2025 more comfortable than the 2024, including in low light situations. The Edge 2025 is a brighter display, so in theory should be less comfortable in lower light situations.
In theory, the Edge 2025 is supposed to exert more strain on the eyes due to dithering heavily. I went into testing it thinking it would surely be worse than the Edge 2024.
Therefore, this goes to show dithering doesn't necessarily worsen the comfort of a display. Someone else on this forum noted the same. They found in their case dithering improved comfort.
I just wanted to add that it really is impressive how Motorola refined the Edge 2024 into the Edge 2025.
Using the 2024 model, you feel it's a fantastically designed device that would be hard to improve.
Yet the Edge 2025 feels materially better in all respects. It's impressive what they managed in just 1 year of work. Yes, they're OLED, but you can't make an LCD phone that feels and functions like the Moto Edge 2025 or even Edge 2024. In the case of the 2025 model, it's a glorious piece of technology deserving far more appreciation that I've seen. I'm not intrinsically a fan of OLED, but the Edge 2025 feels so nice as a daily driver, like a fine watch but with infinitely more utility.
Takes a few minutes of using the Edge 2025 to know without any doubt every single aspect of it was carefully thought through and engineered for a superior user experience.
Yes, it dithers heavily according to Nick's microscope. Oh my, that means it must be like rubbing your eyes with sandpaper?
Not at all my experience.
Think about it. Why would the Moto engineers do a marvelous job with every aspect of the Edge 2025 and meanwhile equip it with a display known to be harsher on the eyes than the previous generation that didn't dither at all?
If anyone here claiming to be sensitive to dithering is able to try the Edge 2025, please do share your experiences. Nick at Android Central says he is sensitive to PWM and not sensitive to dithering. Therefore, the fact the Edge 2025 dithers heavily has no detrimental impact on his user experience.
