Well, the time has come and my 2014 Chevy Cruze is in rough shape. I look around and all I see are LED headlights, massive touchscreens, and no analog speedometers. I test drove a 2025 Ford Escape, and while I could turn off the touch screen, the LED headlights gave me the same symptoms I get from screens (eye pain, headaches, focusing problems). Very few if any cars from the last few years are comfortable rides and have halogen headlights. Open to any recommendations of tolerable cars.

I know it's kind of "vapor ware" currently, but if the Slate truck makes it to market, it will have a very basic display for speed and transmission status. Not the answer you're likely looking for but they do say delivery possibly 2026….

Interesting. My mom has a 2022 Chevy Malibu LT that used to be great, but it has had some engine and suspension issues, so what once was a comfortable ride is now loaded with vibration issues which sets off my neuropathy badly. It’s one of the last newer cars that has halogen headlights and the touch screen is tolerable. She’s had so many issues with it that I’d be afraid to try it. I think the 2025/2026 Chevy Blazer has an analog speedometer, too, but it has LED headlights. Oddly I’m fine with the smaller daytime running LEDs on the Malibu, but I assume it’s because they’re very small and low to the ground.

I can’t find any data on car LED headlights as far as PWM. I don’t trust the AI analysis of the PWM frequency. It also doesn’t seem like you can change the color temperature to that of halogens. I wonder if there’s a way to test and see if specific headlights might be at a good frequency and modulation?

I've been finding the dual screens (No analog Speedometers) are much better then cars that mix screen and gauges. The new style of analogue gauges use very harsh white led light which i think is an issue for us now. My current car i switch off the analogue cluster and just use the digital speed on the center screen. We get a lot of Chinese brand cars in Australia, i've tested MG and GWM which have been fine. I see new Toyota have dual screens now. Be aware of anti-fatigue safety technology. I think it's basically a blinking ir/led camera pointed directly at your eye. You may mistake the screen as your issue when it is actually the fatigue tech. Some cars you can disable with tape on the sensor or a hat or something when driving.
