I'm one of those very affected by sub-pixel rendering since 2011-12 tho wasn't aware of this till last month. Besides the fonts there is something else that gives me discomfort tho:S
Do you have the problem with fonts only, but if you look at a picture or video (without text) no?
I got Samsung Chromebook 3 XE501C13-K02US (Intel HD Graphics 400) and I have 0 discomfort. I have been sitting on it for 12h for the last month without any problems. Light, reflection, bad contrast at night non of that matters anymore!!!
I haven't enabled Dev mode yet so can't really tell how it's underlying config looks, not sure if the fonts are grey anti aliased or it's none.
...Need to figure how to get chromium on USB and try on different hardware.
Disabling antialiasing on new Mac Air instantly improved my situation, but it still bugs me.
I'm not sure if that can be grayscale antialiasing vs none (not sure which one is used on Mac once you disable)
On the new Mac Retina, I had to disable HiDPI resolution too and I got the Air feel. When I check chrome://gpu
scale=2 changed to 1. Tho on the chromebook it's 1.1 and it does not bother me, so not sure what exactly that means.
Using the laptops vs external CCFL (Dell ST2410b) monitor does not make any difference.
I'm not affected by flicker (the chromebook has visible flicker at 60Hz).
When using external monitor PWM would be issue only if the monitor had? I mean since I can use this monitor with some hardware, I guess that does not bother me either. So I suspect and have to dig more with drivers/dithering.
