How many of you use the Ditherig software from this website?

https://kawamoto.no-ip.org/henteko/myapp_en.html

I'm thinking of reaching out to the creator in the distant future and asking if he can make Ditherig work for the upcoming (2020 release) Intel discrete graphics cards. If we had a GoFundMe or similar to buy the guy a graphics card / pay for his time would anyone else be interested in contributing?

I never heard of this website before, thanks for sharing.

I am in if there is to contribute!

    That's great, thanks.

A bit of background on Ditherig, it turns off dithering functions for intel integrated graphics, newer chips only though. It really works too.

Seagull Actually I believe the developer tested it on earlier generations. I've used it on HD4000 and works.

From the site: "This requires Windows XP or later.
This requires Intel 6th generation graphics or later (e.g. Intel HD Graphics 3000, including Sandy Bridge, Ivy Bridge, Haswell, Silvermont, Broadwell, Airmont, Skylake, Kaby Lake, Goldmont, Coffee Lake, Goldmont Plus, Amber Lake and Whiskey Lake generations).
I have checked behavior with the combinaion of Intel UHD Graphics 620 and NVIDIA GeForce MX150, Intel HD Graphics 515, Intel Iris Pro Graphics 5200 and Intel HD Graphics 4000."

Would it work also with Intel HD Graphics 5000 1536 MB?
But my laptop is a Mac. Is it correct the software works only on Windows?
Thanks for "a bit of background". I saw some posts in the past about a dither software, but I could not catch up.

Count me in to help with funding.

Intel Integrated Graphics is used in I would say at least two-thirds of most offices and consumer machines (unless using discreet graphics for gaming/CAD etc). If a proper dithering solution was achieved even just for Intel graphics it would 'unlock' a lot of machines to use.

Also a Mac dithering tool would be a dream come true.

        a) probably
        b) yes

I would gladly fund this. We should ask the one we fund to be open source.

All I can say is that if the Intel drivers are similar enough to the existing integrated GPUs (in terms of configuration) writing such a program should be trivial (for Windows and Linux)

JTL Why is Mac always out of the equation? Could you explain in a few words to a non-expert?

          • JTL replied to this.

AGI Because it's harder (not impossible) to manipulate the driver code under OS X. If I worked for Apple, this would be easier, but alas I don't.

JTL Always out of curiosity, is it legal to mess around with proprietary software and divulge customized versions?

You think dithering is not your problem, or the software does not actually work?

                  • JTL replied to this.

AGI I'm not 100% certain but I can think of some edge-cases where ditherig.exe could not work properly.

                    2 years later

Today I tried Ditherig 1.1 with Intel i3-3220, HD 2500 graphics, and it seemed to work.

3 days ago, I decided it was enough and switched from the straining iMac to my old PC desktop from 2013. However, after a couple of hours I felt some tiredness in the eyes, which I didn’t have 3 years ago. It’s Windows 2004, DVI, Samsung 971p S-PVA monitor. Way way better than on Mac, though. I think either my eyes got more sensitive, or the tech has changed (or both).

So I installed Ditherig and set it to disable all types of dithering. I did not see any difference, but after a few hours, I was still sitting at the computer, I could concentrate, and my eyes weren’t tired. So I think it works, unless it’s a placebo.

Has anyone see it work on such an old tech?

Initially, I couldn’t install it, but then chose another exe - amd64, and this one installed fine. A bit counterintuitive.

For me the main problem with ditherig is that it's unoficcial software (we have even warnings about it on the main site), so in some companies there can be problems with installing it because of security reasons.

Has anyone tried dithering on Intel Iris series?

AMD designed the 64bit processor instruction set which both intel and AMD use, so in some quarters 64bit is known as AMD 64bit.
