Hi everyone. For the whole last year I was working on an old Dell XPS 15 9530 notebook, however over night the device startet to fail completely. First of all sound has gone and after that all USB ports. My first thought was a windows and driver problem. Startet to download them and also downloaded a Bios Update from Dell recommended. Moreover the Update totally bricked that already dying notebook. (also thanks for that DELL - I've never had problems with BIOS Updates in my life since now)
I used this notebook with installed ditherig without any eye problems after some acclimatization time. So I was in a really bad position. Luckily we had the exact same notebook in my office.
So. I just build in my hard drive from the bricked XPS 15 to the still working XPS 15.
System started and everything seemed to be ok. But I thought wrong.
This exactly same device is giving me eyestrain. It's also the completely same OS, since I've just built in the same hard drive.
Unfortunately I didn't remember the firmware version (BIOS) of the bricked XPS. As on the working one is just the oldest possible BIOS Version, I thought trying to Update that thing maybe could help. But also that doesn't help. Moreover there are many newer BIOS Versions and I can't just go through them, because of crappy Dell Update routine.
I've Update from Version 4 to 5 without a problem. From Version 5 to 6 the installer got stucked at 68% and I had to remove the battery in order to boot again - very very risky. (Vers 12 ist the latest update)
However even there were some changes in graphics, it doesn't seem that I've elimianted the eye strain. It feels like I've made it worse.
Still have no idea what is going on here.
