Philips does excellent R&D, but their consumer products seem to have too many issues, unless it's just that most happy consumers don't bother to post reviews. Do forum members still recommend the latest Philips VA options?
If you go for 32", you should shy away from the 1080p version based on reviews I've read calling the text quality inadequate, but my personal suspicion is that they're simply not using it correctly. At 32" with only 1080p, you have to put the screen rather far away from you, and most desks won't allow for that distance. Not a problem with the product, just how people are using it.
I think it's probably healthier to use monitors in that fashion, well away from the keyboard and eyes, but it's definitely not typical.
Here's a critical review of Size: 32 Inch 2K QHDStyle: Flat VA Verified Purchase
This is the first monitor I have ever purchased that I was unable to get sharp text. I bought it in order to work on multiple documents simultaneously. I can do that but after an hour my eyes are burning due to the ghosting around the text. This might be a good monitor for gaming. I'm not a gamer so I can't judge. But it is a no-go for text.
On paper that model should be rather good, but for whatever reason the VA panel type isn't performing adequately for this person.
Here's a comment corroborating some of my general observations from reading consumer reviews:
I spent over 6 hours trying to get this set up. Talking with Apple customer support and Phillips customer support. Apple was awesome as usual but they couldn't figure it out. When I called Phillips I could barley understand the people that I was talking to because they don't speak good English. after being on the phone with Phillips for about 45 minutes they said that they have had many issues with this model. Now I will not buy anything Phillips. And I thing it is stupid that I ned to wait 14 for a refund. I didn't make this piece of crap and it should never of been shipped to me if Phillips knows there are problems with it.
Though to be fair that could have been a case of user error. No idea why they couldn't even set it up.
Another review states:
Manufactured by Top Victory Investment Ltd.
As suspected, Philips outsources the manufacturing so the products themselves aren't quite up to par with what they could be if they did the manufacturing themselves. This explains my perception there's a bit of a gap between their first-rate R&D and the actual products they sell.
This seems to be the same company as Top Victory Investments: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TPV_Technology
