The BlurBusters site shows CRTs actually expose the eyes to much less light energy than do LCDs, and as far as we can tell, it's principally the W-LED that is causing most people problems. Not all, since some are benefiting from high refresh screens, but it seems like most to me.
Therefore, this can be one of the mechanisms VA is superior for us by allowing us to view our monitors with less exposure to W-LED light.
That said, why don't they use full spectrum lights in our monitors? Years ago I bought a cheap full-spectrum LED desk lamp. Surely our eyes, brains, and bodies are worth the extra expense of a superior backlight spectrum?
