Gurm I still feel it's the way different companies/OS's perform dithering as there are many different algorithms available.
I have never been able to use Linux though... even in the late 00's with CCFL monitors etc, it's never been comfortable for me.
I suspect that W10 is now performing it's own dithering, similar to how Apple has been, but it's their own proprietary version, which may or may not be as effective as each other's algorithm.
Dithering should be as easily controllable as a resolution change in OS or adjusting a BIOS setting, so that I see what my monitor is capable of without any extra noise added.
