I never experienced eye strain on lcds with glossy displays.

I always experienced eye strain on lcds with matte finishes, except for one product, a msi ge62vr 6rf apache pro laptop from 2016 wich has been perfect to me.

Since then, I,ve tried many matte monitors, from all resolutions, from all sizes, from all refresh rates and always had problems : eye strain and headaches, sometimes nausea and brain fog with loss of short term memory. None of these monitors had pwm. All of them had dithering except one. I even tried a msi laptop from 2020 and same problems. The monitor I had least problems with was a VA panel from msi. In general, I don’t have problems with glossy led TVs. But I never tried oled and I don’t want to cause of pwm.

Never had problems with phones, I can spend all day on my glossy iphone 8 and be perfectly fine.

This problem has been haunting me for the last year, from the moment I had to change my msi laptop. Very recently I came with a theory. I researched a bit and discovered that anti glare coatings are treated with chemicals. I also read that magnesium fluoride is often used in anti reflective layers. Now I don’t know if it’s specifically used in anti glare coatings but I highly suspect since its the most efficient while cheap chemical to use for anti reflective properties.

Now, exposition to magnesium fluoride can affect the skeleton, kidneys, central nervous system, respiratory system, eyes and skin, and may cause or aggravate attacks of asthma.

Also, if you type magnesium fluoride reddit on google, you’ll get to a gif that shows what magnesium fluoride does to blood when it’s injected in it, it’s pretty impressive and disgusting. Basically it coagulates it in matters of seconds.

One of the major problems I have experienced is increased tension and pressure inside my eyes, and my face bloating a bit with skin becoming more red. When I searched about magnesium fluoride and saw what it did to blood while it’s very probably used in monitors anti glare coatings, it just striked to me there may be a link.

Now I hope I’m being paranoid but I wanted to know your opinions on this. The fact I never have problems with glossy screens (didn’t tried oled though as It could be problematic cause of pwm) and I always had problems with matte finishes except my old laptop made me think it could be related to the coating and the very irritating chemicals used in it.

What’s your take on this ? Thanks in advance.

I don't see how one would ingest the screen coating.

I like anti-glare screens in brightly lit office environments and outdoors.

I tried anti glare filters on screens and anti glare coatings on lenses to wear. Neither did anything

It's more like exposition to it. Maybe the chemicals have nothing to do. Maybe it's just the image bluriness induced by the matte finish that causes eye strain. Good to know that you don't have more problems with matte than with glossy.

Ok, good to know. So you don't have less problems with glossy screens than with matte films ?

Glare screens are much worse than matte screens, but matte filters do not make glare screens any better. They just turn them into matte looking screens that hurt me

ensete hi, I am looking for an eink phone or tablet, or possibly an eink monitor but so many seem to be glossy and the glare makes me sick. You don't happen to know of any that work for you?
