Dell not working out for you, or? I want to personally aim for monitors above 1080p resolution as I've become picky after getting used to the lack of seeing pixels on my Macbook Pro LCD (2880x1800) resolution. However I would like to try out a large 4k monitor in person but there aren't many stores around Vancouver that don't have flickering lights, defeating the purpose of trying one 🙁 I'm mainly concerned about the DPI scaling. I know under OS X it's quite good but unsure of how it works under Debian.

Actually I have noticed improvements with the nvidia card (and I tested it myself today , I could see the dithering when I turned it off and on - that was satisfying) But I also remember using the my old tube monitor and never dealing with any of this. Unfortunately, I don't have mass cash at my disposal so 4k (while it may work) will have to wait 😉

Slacor Fair enough. Unfortunately I am waking up with headaches every day that are completely independent of screens and it's quite draining but I can use the Macbook and my desktop with the BenQ monitor without it causing additional problems.

I'm considering purchasing the ViewSonic VA2455sm and I need to verify two things:

SuperClear Pro technology provides true 8-bit color performance

Because it uses 8-bit, that means there is no dithering (FRC) occurring correct?
6-bit often using FRC dithering to simulate 8-bit.

Flicker-Free

Is there any brightness range that would cause PWM to occur? Or is it PWM-free through the entire range (0-100)?

Slacor But I also remember using the my old tube monitor and never dealing with any of this.

CRT's never used dithering and some of them had very high refresh rates. I had a CRT long ago that could do more than 120hz and it never gave me problems even after this issue started nearly 5 years ago.

It was an Viewsonic Optiquest V95 and cost more than $3000 over 15 years ago and could do nearly 2k resolution.

Ok, got it. We'll see if "True 8-bit" lives up to it's name and makes a difference over 6-bit and FRC.

Also, no PWM throughout the entire range of brightness

After using this monitor for about half a week, I have to say this is much better then my Dell U2414H.
It's semi-old tech (DVI and VGA only!) and has some ghosting, but I'm becoming nearly symptom free which is phenomenal.
We'll see how it progresses.

There was a refurbished one I got very cheaply (making it easier to trial).
There's a "newer model" that is flicker free but doesn't specify whether 8 bit or 6 bit.

If you want to try the new one, I would suggest contacting them and asking them.

I'm using this monitor along with a nvidia card on linux, all of which has allowed me eliminated the usage of dithering. So it was not this monitor alone that "made everything better" is regards to dithering.

Slacor Appreciate it. I just ordered a BenQ 8 bit / Flicker free panel suggested by JTL. If I don't have any luck I'm bookmarking this ViewSonic and will give it a run. When using a monitor such as this in combination with an Nvidia GPU, is there any setting that needs to be changed in the Nvidia control panel, or should as-is be fine?

Slacor Thanks again. Just read that whole page. If I'm not mistaken, Windows + Nvidia + PWM free 8 Bit monitor shouldn't require any setting changes in the registry or Nvidia control panel, right? Unless we're to use the dithering.exe file in conjunction with the above formula?

Also, is the coating less aggressive than a typical IPS monitor of the 2016 era? I'm wondering what about this model was benefiting you so much versus the Dell. Some are skeptical VA makes a difference and instead say IPS screens historically had fuzzy, overly aggressive anti-glare coatings. Therefore they lend the impression a low haze IPS should be every bit as comfortable as a decent VA.
