JTL yeah, I knew it would. The good is that the PWM is not really noticable over a certain brightness setting though of course it is still there.
I learned from the source code that was posted that the small 3a is Samsung only, and the large one is Samsung and Tianma.
I received the device on Friday but turned it on today. (Wanted to air it out a bit because the plastic wrap it came in was very stinky.)
It's certainly fast compared to my ancient M8, no disputing that.
I'm not sold on it. I find the large size hard to hold. The 5" diagonal dimensions of the M8 are probably the max comfortable size for the average hand that likes to hold devices one-handed and the XL is a 6". It would be ok if the device was thicker.. (case, or more battery).
Turned off adaptive brightness, turned brightness to 100% and set color to "Natural". The other two options are Boost and Adaptive. The latter two seem the same. Natural, I think has a color calibration issue with this panel, because reds for example are much darker than I expect them to be. I don't think it is SRGB accurate. The white however is better than the now too-damn-blue M8.
Tilting the screen I can see a green-pink colour shift in bands depending on the angle I am holding it at. It's magnified by the large screen. On a small screen it would be less noticable.
Scrolling text I can see afterimages more clearly than on my other devices.. Web pages load with the font size smaller than I am comfortable seeing even when I crank up the display font size in the settings.. this is a software issue. Text due to the AA and pentile is not as "sharp" as one might expect comparing to a RGB stripe display.
They've added a lot more options, gestures, etc. in 9, and frankly I find myself missing the simplicity of Marshmallow and below as well as older versions of iOS.
Could I use it if I was forced to use it? Yes, I can. Do I want to? I'm thinking at the present time, no.
Currently contemplating whether I want to grab a SE from Costco and compare that as well.
