I dont think its the amoled. Im using samsung s6 and s7 all day with no problem. Its gotta be the drivers as samsung s10e gives me strain.

But youre not sure its whats causing your eyestrain. It doesnt matter what screen you got as long as the Source is shit.
I mean I had 2 exactly same laptop screens With different graphic Cards and one of them is 100% pleasant to eyes the other is shit as its uses the dreadful intel hd Integrated piece of shit display chip.

Plsnostrain Yes, maybe PWM, doesn't have anything to do with eye strain. But it sucks big time.

I have literally never had a problem with PWM. And there are LED displays that are wonderful for me that have HEAVY PWM and VERY BLUE output. So I have to go with "flicker" as a generalized term for what ails me.

Gurm I think you should check out the Pixel 4 XL at a kiosk. It'll already have Android 10 on it.

This thread is supposed to help people who have similar strain issue. Some members here generalize all new phones are giving strain. I had severe strain, imagine looking for 2 minutes on my friends iPhone ruined my next two days. I reported that Huawei P30 Pro was true miracle because i thought almost new phones will make it worse but no it gives zero eye strain. Before i bought the phone, the last thing i choose is OLED ones because of some of the replies here as i read this forum from years. For those who are not sure what is the cause, don't assume it is flickering even you think so, there is option to enable dc dimming to reduce flicker. There are some replies said DC dimming doesn't work, in this case your issue might not be PWM.

As if PWM and Android rendering weren't enough, apps and games can introduce eye strain, too. I'm not big gamer but recently I discovered Call of Duty Mobile and can literally play it all day. Then I bought Stardew Valley and within some minutes got the worst eye strain in a long time. It is just a 2D game. So be careful what apps you use (and what you buy).

I tried to live with the Samsung S10e but it just didnt work out for me.
Stock standard was unusable, and with OLED Saver it still didnt feel as good as the LG,

olgomar Even with the app, it was still unusable for me unfortunately.
I waited a few days and tried another phone at a shop to confirm. After a few minutes I felt tingling across the top of my scalp, and felt disorientation shortly afterwards. Definitely a no-go for me.
Back to the trusty LG v30 (above 45% brightness) for me.

I use the term "flicker" very loosely. What we are experiencing is definitively down to something making our eyes work too hard in an imperceptible almost immediate manner. Is it subpixels dancing around making it hard to focus? Is it flickery panels due to PWM? Is it temporal dithering? We just don't know. But in general, I suspect some kind of dithering/shifting/dancing that is happening in the "too damn many times a second to be seen but enough to make my nervous system lose its mind" range.

degen it's ok. I'm not sure what's going on - there are display glitches that are resolved by turning off hardware overlays, which is never a terrible thing, but that were fixed in a November 2017 update. The release on the PA site is older than that. It appears they did at least 2 point releases, but no idea where to find them (or if they were real at all). I've got a working phone for the time being, but it's frustrating. It's also not perfect - still have eyestrain, definitely not as good as my HTC. But functional.

KM Yeah that doesn't seem to be the version with the display glitch fixes - I've gotten display glitches flashing it onto a OnePlus3 and a OnePlus3T. And neither one of them is perfect for me to look at afterwards. The OnePlus3 is definitely a little better than the OnePlus3T, not sure what that even means. PA comes with its own firmware, but I wonder if there's some older firmware that needs flashing on. There's also a fixed "touchscreen" firmware for the 3T, but I doubt that does anything to the display, sounds like just a digitizer driver.

Maybe the phones have different display hardware after all. I never had any screen glitches and I have flashed a lot of ROMs from XDA. I mean there must be a reason for the glitches.

The screen shifts up and down about 50-100 pixels, the top 50-100 pixels get squished and the rest of the screen jumps up and then back down correspondingly.
