richiesuk Yes very interesting because it is with the Dimensity 8200-Ultra, DDR5 RAM and UFS 3.1 way more powerful than my Realme 9 Pro. When it arrives like his predecessor as Poco X4 GT here i will try it. But with the X4 GT i had no luck and there Xiaomi was also speaking of a LCD display with DC Dimming.

Dok123 I tried the G73 5G. Couldn't tolerate the display. Instant eye strain.

Realme 9 5G is a cheap & safe bet. But yes, it's underpowered, but it'll do a decent job for casual browsing/surfing the net, social media/youtube etc.

Well I was about to order nord n30 same as ce 3 lite but since people are saying it's no good guess I'll wait. My moto edge 2021 ips display has been giving me issues lately. No pwm above 60 percent. I'm in us. My lg v20 and v40 never caused issues but I was forced to upgrade with sprint and got pixel 6 pro and then s21 plus and started having issues. The POS modem in this moto phone is also an issue so I have to get something else.

I've now used Honor Magic 5 Pro for a few months. Really heavy usage, like when the battery dies during the day, or is like 15% in the evening, I find my eyes irritated in the next morning, but normal usage of consuming 50% the battery does not irritate.

Just joined here, I’ve tried to use numerous androids and everytime I end up with the same results, constant eye swelling, my brain feels clouded, and I have lots of pain in my neck just after a few seconds of looking at a oled device, been using the iPhone 11 but I feel it’s time for an upgrade not sure if I want to get an iPhone 13 and put a lcd on it or get an android probably the nokia Xr21 if I go that route, I’m a little learey about the nokia though I previously bought the Blu F91 and had major issues looking at it as well

Yes, the Magic4 Lite 5G/X9 5G display is decent! It's a bland low contrast screen, and I've not had any issues with it in terms of eye strain. Doesn't work well with all matte screen protector brands though. But It can comfortably be used without one too.

I've also recently noticed that sometimes the display feels more comfortable using it in light mode (black text/white background) & NOT dark mode. I've noticed this on the honor lcd devices I've used. This might be due to external factors like lighting conditions or something to do with the backlight type used in the display.

The X9 5G isn't perfect though as a phone. It's stuck on android 11 (if updates are important to you) & has weak sound/call volume, and a low brightness display. But general performance is decent.

The realme 9 pro display is still my favorite - works so well with any brand of matte screen protectors, especially in dark mode, and has good battery life and good sound/call volume/quality.

Honor have just announced a new upgrade to what looks like the x8a. It's the Honor 90 Lite. It looks just as beautiful as the x8a, but it has slightly more powerful specs:

European/UK release date is 20th June 2023.

They've really nailed the design. It looks very pretty. The Dimensity 6020 is still a budget processor though, and is basically a renamed Dimensity 700. But it's a LOT more powerful than the cheap & weak G88 used in the x8a.

I just found out the phone is the global version of China exclusive Honor X50i.

According to X50i's eye comfort specification (translated with google)

The UK website also has the phone advertised, but doesn't provide info on specs like the french site does.

I was reading through the UK honor website, and they actually have a decent returns policy. You can literally return any handset purchased directly from them within 30 days, for any reason - no quibbles - even if it's been opened/used.

Does anyone have any experience regarding this? As it seems a bit too good to be true. I've not come across any other phone brand in the UK that offer this. Usually they all require a defect of some sort in order to even consider a return.

I shared a video link a few weeks ago on here about their "circadian friendly" display in the magic5 pro. To be honest, it all seems like marketing nonsense & hype, without any real world benefits.

I think, all it does is shift the color temperature automatically to amber/yellow, as opposed to having to do it manually. Honor/Huawei have always offered a color temperature dial in their display settings whereby a user can tweak the temperature to their liking. They've literally just automated that process, and are now selling it like it's some sort of revolutionary new feature.

I am interested in their "hardware level" low blue light display tech though, that they advertise being certified by tuv rheinland. This is offered in the magic5 pro & I think the honor 70. The other honor handsets only have it certified at a "software level". Again, not sure if this is just marketing dribble.

Vividblu99 Thanks that's reassuring. I'm totally fine with them automating the temperature tweaking to yellow. In fact, I can even leave the screen on with a yellow tint 24/7 since my entire house lighting is already in this color.

Hmm, that's interesting about low blue light display on a hardware level. I have yet to hear about hardware/software level low blue light certifications.

I hope someone can a color analysis of the phone, so as to have a better general idea what that exactly meant. Perhaps something similar to what was reported on reddit for the Redmi Note 12T Pro.

Tobiyas Finally, took them just 12 years to decide to make a DC dimmed OLED.
I doubt that phone is immune to the usual slight flicker / brightness dip related to rolling scan every refresh rate cycle (so, every ₈.3ms @ 120hz), as that's how OLED's refresh. Unsure how much of a issue this can be, we'll have to wait for more reviews.
I'm eagerly waiting for another manifacturer to use the same panel if it turns out to be true. Mediatek is too restricting for custom ROMs, definitely exciting times ahead!

It appears that the Honor 90 lite / X50i is my candidate!

It is using the same exact camera sensor S5KHMX 1/1.33" 0.8μm as the xiaomi 10t pro. I took an interest in the 10t pro before but looked away because of the PWM and their poorer camera software processing.

Looking at the photos taken in the link, I say i am impressed.

Now I am awaiting for more news about this phone!

Did anyone tried some of the latest pixel phones? Like 6a/7/7a/7pro? If I'd buy an android device I'd like it to be from google. Last pixel I used was 4 and did gave me eye strain. I saw many people complain about most of pixel phones. The 7a according to dxomark is rated as 360hz ( Google Pixel 7a Display test - DXOMARK) and the 7 pro according to notebookcheck (Google Pixel 7 Pro review: Premium smartphone with stock Android - NotebookCheck.net Reviews) seems to have something similar to DC Dimming. I guess the best bet for now is nokia g60 a pretty low specs device.

Pixels are known to be horrible for us. Many people tried different models in the past and nothing is okay.

Hope Honor include some form of video stabilization this time, as there is none on the Magic4 Lite/x8a/70 Lite.

Either way, the 90 Lite is quite beautiful in design. Honor really stand out in this area.

qb74 I'm sorry to disappoint you but the Honor 90 lite is using LCD, unlike its higher end 90 and 90 pro.😂

If you are referring to the Redmi Note 12T pro and Redmi Note 11T pro/ Poco X4 GT, they are all using LCDs. The difference is that the Redmi Note 12T pro is now using hardware dc dimming (for real this time) while the previous Redmi Note 11T pro/ Poco X4 GT is using higher frequency PWM but software DC dimming.

For the Honor 90 duo Oled's, it is as you said ~ it still suffers from the same problem of oled while at lower brightness (below 80nits). The Honor 90 pro is the one with grey line. You can see how subtle is the flickering until the refresh rate cycle kicks in.

At least while at brightness above 90 nits it uses software DC dimming that resembles your average lower 2500 PWM LCD flickering. Modulation depth percentage matches those of lower PWM LCD's. This is probably the first in the market!

Yea I hope this technology continues to improve and be used by more manufacturers. I also hope they will eventually remove the nasty brightness dip at every refresh rate cycle.
