m23 Hi wlmsn, You can find inside detailed specs of monitor. Dell calls it edgelight and HP edge-lit. You can use these two words to search via browser and it lists different models. Or on official sites. As for laptops it is more complicated. I have found PWM ranking on laptopmedia and they have listed laptops panel. For backlight it usually just says WLED. Maybe for model of laptop you are interested send email to the manufacturer and ask for the type of panel backlighting?
Aquila I tried the same method on my AMD card on Zephyrus g15. It has Nvidia Rtx 3060 end AMD Radeon. I setted on advanced card setting low brightness and high contrast. Blacks are deeper and for my eyes is very comfortable.
Deepak m23 Isn't every laptop screen and monitor basically edge-lit only? Be it IPS, VA, TN etc. Unless it is mini-LED or OLED?
m23 Deepak Not sure about laptops, need to do more digging. To be honest I just turned off laptop screen and use 2 external monitors.
wlmsn Deepak so if Mini-LED is direct lit then that might explain the latest MacBooks giving people problems
m23 Clm I'm using HP P24 G4. EyeDiscomfortCertificate I'm not sure are all edge lit. ensete Reminds me off recent LTT video. There are different subpixel layouts and software used is called Clearview. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AXgUnbMAcOY That part starts at 3:10 min
EyeDiscomfortCertificate almost 100% of all monitors sold today are edge-lit. In fact there is opinion that directly lit are better, because they do not have that annoying diffuser present in edge lit ones. Nowadays, they started producing non-edgelit monitors again, it is called Mini-led.
ensete This doesnt apply to me, my issue is 100% software triggered. I can have a pain free or a non usable setup on identical hardware depending on what OS/software I am using
Donux m23 Very useful information from your experience. I was wondering, now you can buy these horizontal lights that are mounted on the top of the laptop lid, would that help to redirect the emitted light rays from a panel? :/
