K-Moss lol I dont think its neuroplasticity related because my CCFL VA tv is fine and I have laid my eyes upon random lcds in the wild like for example my brothers cadillac cue screen and they dont fry me but other displays which seem mostly to be ips can instantly fry me. For example any LCD apple device. I am not sure if its how the pixels let light through that makes the light more directed into the eyes causing issues. I think VA and TN have light passing through at different orientations I think and both of those are significantly better. I know several of my old alienware laptops were TN as well as very old dell monitors. I even found out my last asus laptop before my eyes took a turn was a auo TN so I think IPS just isnt compatible with me sadly.

Yeah OLED use I think can cause more sensitivity temporarily to LCDs which Id assume is from overstimulaing the cells/cones in the eye whatever its called. BUT long oled break never has made a bad IPS like the lcd iphones work for me so its not for all cases. Id say this omen is significantly better than any lcd iphone tho. I think the OLED issue today is due to how bright the panels are vs old phones like the s3,s6 etc. also wide color gamut which makes colors very intense when the light source alone is intense to begin with.

This. I went to the Apple Store today and it’s like looking into a white piece of paper with a bunch of pinholes. And before K-Moss chimes in, no, it’s not from OLED use. 2015 MBP doesn’t look like this.

The Retina Macs (pre-Liquid Retina) with the bezels don’t have this issue, even the Apple Silicon ones. IMO it’s likely the consequence of thinner designs which have fewer diffusers and thinner glass.

Could this largely explain why the Sonim XP Pro is so comfortable? The Gorilla Glass is said to be unusually thick.

Theoretically (big emphasis on this) the additional diffusion could affect how much direct light enters the eyes, which may be beneficial for those of us with photosensitivity.

I’ve really tried to dig into what the difference between Apple Retina screens (bezels) and Liquid Retina (notch) is, to determine variables. What I’ve found is:

More diffusion papers for Retina (less for Liquid)
Retina diffusion papers are white and yellow tones, Liquid is green and pink)
Different edgelit LEDs on the bottom
Thinner overall design (thinner glass)
Different glossy screen
Different aspect ratio and PPI
Redesigned chassis

Aquila Since you bought it, can you share what is a product/model number on your box? (And please anyone else who bought it). Is it 780H4AA#ABB ? I can see that Generation 1 of this product has two versions, one more expensive, another one is less expensive. 780H4AA#ABB number is more expensive one. Does it correlate with LG revision 1 to 1 ? @Autobot has stated that is the one, but I need more assurances, I can't just buy the whole shop.

What is your motherboard and RAM?. What version of Bios do you have, is xmp enabled, and is the processor overclocked? Do you have the chipset driver installed?

What version of BIOS is on your video card?

windows 10 pro, home or ltsc? Version?

are updates disabled?

Can you also tell me the settings for your monitor and the settings in the video card driver menu? Gpu scalling and other) Hdmi or display port?

Where do we stand now on IPS vs. VA in the light of Omen 27q, which is IPS ? For those who are using it without problems, did those IPS related problems blur away ? i.e. glow, poor contrast ratio, etc. Or, speculatively this Omen 27q with VA panel, could be even better ? (Although LG was never good with VA panels according to Gemini)

Donux Good question.
On laptop side, IPS doesn't strain me so much.
As PC side, yes, IPS monitors are mostly bad.
Omen 27q is just an exception.
VA are interesting, I love their contrast and blacks for gaming and Overall are good.

Now with my safe 6750XT, I'll retest all my monitors step by step for a final score

Since I can not really check what panel I will get with HP, I think it would be just the same as bying LG gaming monitor such as this one - 27GS85Q-B. All of them are marked as flicker free, and its RGB pixel layout, just refresh is higher as they are constantly updating. And LG is quite trasparent, it is 8 bit plus FRC.

But NO, I forgot, LG now uses nano IPS technology for higher color accuracy and Omen seams to have older design panel type

Aquila I thought LG panel model should be more expensive, but this one - 780H4E9#A seams to be cheaper one. In total I can see these two available:

Literaly the same specs device 27q. But who knows, maybe panel lotery is not correlated with these model numbers. Only way to find out is to write HP. I assume that all units you bought have the correct revision number right ? Or you have identified LG panel using some other method ?

780H4E9 - seams to be 2 years manufacturer warranty
780H4AA - this one 1 year manufacturer warranty

Basically this could be just a regional product number. If only I could know one or another is surely LG panel 🙂

If you can tell me how to check which panel mine has I can do that. I have a 780H4AA.

Seems odd that the monitors would be identical and still have such a price difference. Where I live (northern europe) the 780H4E9 is 100 usd cheaper than 780H4AA. Especially weird that the cheapest one has the longer warranty. Makes me wonder if there is indeed a hardware difference.

For what it’s worth I have one that according to the sticker on the box is a omen 27q 780H4AA#ABB july 2024 Rev L0IT1121, and underneath the monitor itself is a sticker that says «product no.: 780H4AA/780H4E9/780H4AS»

Making it even less clear what the difference between those product numbers are if any.

I would probably ask HP to clarify the difference, especially if it’s the same panel.

I can’t say that this monitor gives any less strain than other monitors I have tried, maybe I should have bought the cheaper one.

I see @Aquila recommends 2023 model but I have 2024, do you happen to know it the year matter if it’s the same revision?

MonkeyWrench I wonder if the 780H4E9 and 780H4AA just have different power plug connectors for different countries. US is always 1 year warranty so maybe the other one with the extended warranty is for outside of the US.

MonkeyWrench There is onely one distributor/supplier probably, and all retailers are simply reselling the same stuff. Luckily, they are not bothered if you will pay or not during item collection, they will return it back or keep it in thier own stock. So I will be going with 780H4E9 and will report back at some point how it went. So far, in addtion to this forum, youtubers, and other review sources praise this monitor a lot. Price is really good too. Interestingly, I went to the store to check Asus pro art with high refresh rate. They had two models, one with matte screen 240 hz refresh, another similar but lower refresh rate, and somewhat non matte screen, but also not glossy or shiny. One with matte screen straight away game me eye strain, but that not fully matte one was really good. I am wondering how much actual coating can be a cause of eye strain too ?
