  • Steam deck Linux os

Hi guys,

Is anyone who is sensitive to Linux too and have eye strain from this os, tried steam deck and got also same eye strain as the Linux?

I wonder if the steam deck cause same eye strain as Linux PC because they using same is almost.

jordan you tried connected to external screen or from the built in screen?

I suspect that the older version add the PWM problem and I wonder if the os itself without the screens cause eye strain

    9 days later

There are more people that tried steam deck docked?

Yeah I have one docked, it's usable. My Windows PC is more comfortable, but the deck is usable.

Will have to try a displayport adapter (dual-mode adapters don't work) and see what if anything changes, also next version of the OS 3.6 will have new mesa drivers, so another thing to check.

Deck actually is usable though. Don't get the OLED one though, that one's bad.

Sunspark Oh sorry to hear that..

I feel that the problem is coming from Linux os itself, because I tried same distro as steam os and it caused me an eye strain too. You tried to play with display settings? How you connect it now for the external display?

Regards the oled, I understood the screen is very bad and really concern about that. Regularly I don’t have problem with oled screen so how can I know if this device will cause me a problem?

The handheld lcd panel is actually ok to use. For external display, I am using a dock and running the hdmi out to the dvi port on my monitor because none of my displayport adapters work on it, but I have since learned why and which ones will work so I might buy another adapter to try the vga port. I don't use the thing much to be honest but it's not because of discomfort, just because I'm not in a gaming mood at the moment.

The oled one is problematic because people who say they are fine with other oleds complained about this one. Also, people measured it with instruments like the opple and others and saw that there are issues with it. Valve said they aren't going to fix/change it (probably can't), so it would be better to wait till the next generation if you want an oled handheld panel. Or I guess, get an oled external monitor that works for you and use that with the lcd panel one.
